Ooredoo Qatar Trial First 5G Standalone Data Call, Enable VoNR Capability With Nokia

Ooredoo Qatar has successfully demonstrated the country-first data call in 5G Standalone (SA) mode with technology partner, Nokia. This achievement opens up new opportunities for Ooredoo Qatar to partner with enterprises and developers in delivering new use cases in domains like Industry 4.0, which demand faster throughput and low latency, according to the official release.

Network Slicing for Differentiated Services

The successful data call, demonstrated in the capital city of Doha, marks a significant milestone for Ooredoo Qatar to create new revenue streams and collaborate with industry players. With 5G SA, Ooredoo Qatar can leverage network slicing, allowing for the provision of differentiated services to the enterprise segment.

According to the official release, Nokia deployed AirFrame servers, Cloud Mobility Manager, Cloud Mobile Gateway, and CloudBand Application Manager to conduct the 5G SA data call. 5G SA will significantly reduce time-to-market for launching new services and enhance the delivery and management of enterprise use cases through network slicing.

Core Solution and VoNR Capability

Along with the successful data call, Nokia's 5G Standalone Core solution played a crucial role in enabling 5G devices to have Voice over New Radio (VoNR) capability. This enables superior quality voice and video calls to be made and received over a dedicated 5G Standalone network.

Compared to Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Nokia's solution offers faster call setup, simultaneous data services, and improved network reliability, according to the statement.

Towards Full Launch of 5G SA Services

Ooredoo Qatar highlighted the trial's significance in progressing toward the full launch of 5G SA services and enabling VoNR devices. Nokia, emphasized the importance of 5G SA in enabling various transformative use cases such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Industry 4.0.
