JioSaavn or Spotify: Which Among the Two is Better Music Streaming Service?

Follow Us

A few years back, there were very few names when it came to music streaming services. However, with the coming of Reliance Jio, thing surely changed as video and music streaming service became commonplace. The result was the launch of a lot of music streaming services. The telecom operators were the first one to jump in the bandwagon. The market saw applications like Saavn, Wynk Music by Airtel and very recently Spotify. Music fanatics out there have probably tried their hands on every application of this kind, but the two that stand out the most are Spotify and JioSaavn. Today we compare these two applications to decide which one is the best among the two, also, which one is the better to spend your money on.

JioSaavn vs Spotify: User Interface and Experience

When it comes to the user interface and experience, there is a clear winner between the two, and it is Spotify. The app comes with a very clear UI and dark colours. On opening the application, you will find suggested music nicely arranged in tiles. There are also options to like songs and follow artists so that you can quickly get back to the songs you like.

In comparison, JioSaavn comes with a light colour UI with the green and white colour scheme, but for some users, the UI might feel a little cluttered and for obvious reasons as the app comes with more features as compared to Spotify.

JioSaavn vs Spotify: App Features

When it comes to actually using both the applications, Reliance Jio’s music streaming app has the edge over Spotify. Although JioSaavn had a lot of resembling features with Spotify initially, the app has now fully grown to craft an identity of its own. When compared to Spotify, JioSaavn offers a lot of features like artist radio, lyrics integration, quality selection of audio. On a side by side comparison, you will find that JioSaavn’s list of features will outcompete Spotify’s.

However, there is one small catch with JioSaavn, and that has to do with the music recommendation algorithm. While Spotify has almost unmatchable and unbeatable music recommendation algorithm which will make you seem like a true music fanatic, JioSaavn’s recommendations about tracks are not really indigenous, and fresh and mostly remain limited to “similar songs” and tracks by the same artists.

JioSaavn vs Spotify: Premium Features

When it comes to buying a premium service from both the music apps, JioSaavn charges Rs 299 per year after its recent price cut, whereas, Spotify is priced highly at Rs 129 per month. Both the premium subscription of music streaming service offers the same highlighting feature of saving the songs offline. You also get ad-free music streaming and three times higher quality in case of Spotify. Spotify also offers a premium day pass for Rs 13 which you can use for a day to save songs offline and enjoy other premium features for travel, commute but only for a day.

Summarising, it can be said that Reliance Jio’s music streaming app has finally grown enough to compete with Spotify owing to its features like lyrics, and others. The chips also fall towards Spotify in case the case of pricing as well. But, if you have been a Spotify user and quality music recommendation and music discovery along with playlists are the features winning your heart, then you can surely go for Spotify. The subscribers can also explore the option of subscribing to YouTube music.
