Samsung Galaxy S8 Gets September Security Patch, AR Emoji and Super Slow Motion Features via OTA Update

After rolling out the latest update to its penultimate flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the Korean giant has started pushing the latest September Android Security patch to Samsung Galaxy S8 as well. In the initial phase, some Exynos devices in Europe have reportedly received the update. However, a user on Reddit with Snapdragon 835-powered Galaxy S8 in the US has also reported the update’s arrival. Apart from the usual backend enhancements, performance improvement and improved security, Samsung has brought the AR Emoji and Super Slow-Motion feature to the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices with this update, thus bettering the quality of the camera on the phone.

Samsung Adds AR Emoji Feature to Galaxy S8, Finally

As per the Reddit reports published about this new update, the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices will get the Android Security patch which will address 24 vulnerabilities ranging from high to critical. The update is based on patch level dated 2018-09-01. Apart from the September Security Patch which the update ships, there is also the AR Emoji feature which takes its place in the camera app. The feature is a contender to Apple’s Animoji feature which allows the users to make their animated avatars and share them in the form of GIFs or videos. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 users or Galaxy S8 users will be able to find the feature inside the new camera app.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Gets Slow Motion Video Recording

The second most significant highlight of the new update is the Super Slow Motion which makes its way to the Galaxy S8. Notably, the feature was first spotted on Samsung Galaxy S9. However, Galaxy S8 users should make note that users will be getting slow-mo at 480fps at 720p for either 0.2 or 0.4 seconds unlike the slow-motion on Galaxy S9 which offers 960fps at 720p for up to 0.4 seconds.
