Vivo will be launching its first smartphone in 2018, the Vivo V9 in India tomorrow. However, before the Indian launch, Vivo has made the V9 official in Thailand and later today, the company will unveil the same smartphone in the Philippines. The highlight of the Vivo V9 is the 24MP front-facing camera which has several AI features. To the front, the phone features a massive 6.3-inch display with 19:9 aspect ratio, meaning there's a notch to the top of the phone. The specifications of the smartphone are decent for a mid-range device, but Vivo will surely miss the plot with its pricing in India.
The Vivo V9, as stated, sports a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The V9 will become the third smartphone in India to run on the Snapdragon 626 Mobile Platform, and the other two smartphones are the Moto Z2 Play and the Tenor D. Also, the phone will be available in a single variant, and there's no 3GB RAM or 6GB RAM option.
The highlight of the Vivo V9 is the 24MP front-facing camera which comes with several new features such as AR Stickers, AI Face Beauty Mode, AI Face Unlock and more. To the back, the phone rocks dual camera setup. The primary sensor is a 16MP unit, while the secondary sensor is 5MP one that captures depth in the images. Vivo promises better Portrait images on the V9, thanks to the bokeh mode powered by Artificial Intelligence.
Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port at the bottom. Sadly, this phone still comes with a micro USB port and not the USB Type-C port, which has become a standard these days. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based FunTouch OS out of the box, which is a good thing. The Vivo V9 measures 7.89mm in thickness and weighs 150grams.
The fingerprint scanner is placed on the back of the phone, so sadly, we don't get the in-display scanner though. This entire package is backed by a 3260mAh battery.
The Vivo V9 in India will be exclusive to Amazon, and the price is expected to be around Rs 25,000. Also, the company has roped in Bollywood actor Aamir Khan as its new brand ambassador, after parting ways with Ranveer Singh in February.
