Samsung seems to be keen on revamping its mid-range Galaxy J series of smartphones. An unannounced Samsung phone with model number “SM-J600” was spotted on Geekbench benchmarking site, which reports tout is the 2018 iteration of the Galaxy J6. The purported Galaxy J6 (2018) is powered by the Exynos 7860 chipset under the hood, which interestingly powers the Galaxy J5 (2018) as well. The smartphone scores 726 points on single-core performance and 3643 points on the multi-core performance as per the Geekbench results.
It has a 1.6GHz octa-core Cortex A53 CPU built on 14nm process. The CPU is paired with 2GB of RAM, and the phone is expected to arrive with 16GB onboard storage along with microSD card expansion.
The chipset supports a maximum screen resolution of 1980 x 1200 pixels. This means the Galaxy J6 can be expected to have either a 720p or a 1080p display panel. The listing, however, doesn’t reveal any information on the aspect ratio of the smartphone, but Samsung is likely going to stick with older 16:9 aspect ratio.
The benchmarked prototype also ran the latest Android 8 Oreo OS with custom Experience UI on the top. This is great news for users, as the previous mid-range Galaxy A series launched by Samsung came with older Android Nougat out of the box.
The Galaxy J6 (2018) is expected to have a single primary camera and a single front-facing camera. There aren’t going with no fancy portrait mode or 2x optical zoom features. The device will also have dual-SIM support with 4G LTE and VoLTE connectivity on both the SIM slots. However, 4G standby will be limited to a single active SIM at one time.
As for pricing and availability of the smartphone, there are no details available as of yet. However, since the Galaxy J6 (2018) made it to GeekBench lately, it won’t be long before the smartphone is launched officially.
