Idea Cellular is apparently testing VoLTE service in the country as Honor 6X's latest software update added support for Idea VoLTE. This essentially means the launch of Idea VoLTE service is around the corner as it was rumoured earlier. Right now, only the Idea VoLTE support has been added to Honor's one-year-old device Honor 6X, but soon, other latest Honor devices such as the Honor 7X, Honor 9i, Honor View 10 will receive the update too, but at the moment, we don't have any info on the same.
Earlier, it was rumoured that Idea Cellular would implement VoLTE service on its network by the end of the current financial year, meaning by the end of March 2018. Since the date is nearing, we might see Idea Cellular make an announcement on the same anytime soon.
With India's top two telecom operators Airtel and Vodafone India offering VoLTE service on the 4G network, Idea Cellular is the only operator seems to be not interested to participate in the race. However, this update on the Honor 6X gives us a hint that Idea is all set to rival the top telcos.
Besides the Idea Cellular VoLTE support, the OTA weighing 567MB also brought a new VoLTE switch in the Settings app for all the telecom operators. This essentially means that users can enable or disable the service on their smartphone. Those are the two new features added by Honor in the latest software update.
Also, do make a note that Idea Cellular will roll out the VoLTE service in select circles first like Airtel and Vodafone India. We're expecting the service to go live in metro circles such as Mumbai firstly, later on expanding to other circles. Vodafone India recently announced VoLTE services in the country in Mumbai and two other circles. Addition of VoLTE service will allow telcos to decrease the tariff prices further as the technology uses data for making voice calls.
