Reliance Communications Q2 net profit down 28% at Rs 39 crore

Reliance Communications (RCom) on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 39 crore for the second quarter, down 28 percent sequentially. RCom said that its consolidated revenue in the second quarter stood at Rs 5,142 crore, down 4% from Rs 5,361 crore in the first quarter. The telco’s EBITDA stood at Rs 1,542 crore, down 1% from Rs 1,560 crore in the first quarter.

For the India operations, the telco’s revenue stood at Rs 4,488 crore, down 4% from Rs 4,693 crore in the first quarter. EBITDA for the India operations stood at Rs 1,297 crore in the second quarter, down 4% from Rs 1,353 crore in the first quarter.

RCom said that its global operations revenue stood at Rs 1,089 crore, down 8% from Rs 1,185 crore in the first quarter. The Anil Ambani-led telco’s minutes if usage went down 2% sequentially at 97.9 billion in the second quarter. The average revenue per unit (ARPY) however surged 5% sequentially to reach Rs 155 in the second quarter. RPM stood at 44.6 paisa, down 1% quarter on quarter.

The total data customer base is 35.1 million including 24.5 million 3G/4G customers in the second quarter, the company said. The total data traffic stood at 104.8 billion MB, up over 8% on a yearly basis. The traffic has increased mainly due to increase in data usage per subscribers, the telco said.

RCom has a customer base of nearly 96 million including over 2.6 million individual overseas retail customers. The company’s corporate clientele includes over 39,000 Indian and multinational corporations including small and medium enterprises and over 290 global, regional and domestic carriers.

During the quarter, the telco launched Reliance Spottr, which us a location based service that will empower customers to ascertain safety and security of near and dear ones, while they are mobile. With this service, an RCom customer can find location of upto five RCOM mobile numbers anywhere in India after securing consent from them.
The telco had also launched Reliance Games Arcade, which is an own branded games store powered by Opera.
