Patents are filed by smartphone makers every now and then. However, some of these patents are pretty breakthrough that they make it to the headlines. Samsung's smartwatch patent is certainly one of those. Interestingly, the patent was filed by the company in 2014 but it has come under limelight now. The patent reveals a new concept for smartwatches that will be equipped with a projector, which will use our palms as a projection surface. Cool, we say.

Samsung smartwatch concept 1

The projector will be displaying the smartwatch UI on the wearer's palm. It will be solving the small screen size issue that most of the smartwatch users would swear by. The very patent also shows the technology being used in VR and other head-mounted tech toys for projection on surfaces such as walls. As you can see in the images above, the concept shows the projection of full app elements on the palm, some are even projected on the knuckles. The writing surface would be wearer's hand and forearm.

We think that if Samsung at all decides to actually develop such wearable then it would give a whole new meaning to the functionality of smartwatches. They would be used for much more than just as an extension to a phone.
