Xiaomi has been going forth in quite an aggressive manner as far as its Indian operations are concerned. The company has talked more than once about manufacturing its smartphones in India and it seems like that its plans have started to materialize as well. Foxconn, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer will manufacture smartphones from Xiaomi in India.

An old Pepsi facility at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh will be revamped to manufacture smartphones for Xiaomi. The facility won't be very big and will manufacture just 10,000 smartphones a day for Xiaomi. Foxconn is planning to make India a major hub for manufacturing smartphones and this is a step in that direction.

Over the next five years, Foxconn is planning to setup 10-12 factories in India with an investment of about $2 billion. These factories are expected to generate about 10,000 jobs. Foxconn plans on manufacturing smartphones, tablets, televisions, routers, set-top boxes and printers among other products in India.

The Indian Government's "Make-in-India" initiative seems to be paying off quite well as more and more OEMs are now considering manufacturing smartphones in India.
