As the roll-out of 5G networks continues to expand across different regions in India, experts predict that the 5G smartphone market will witness a remarkable growth rate of over 70% year-on-year by the end of this year. This projection showcases the increasing popularity and widespread adoption of 5G technology among Indian consumers.
The Indian smartphone market has experienced a remarkable transformation since the introduction of 5G in 2020, with shipments of 5G smartphones growing more than thirteen-fold. This growth is further fueled by the introduction of nearly 100 new 5G smartphones in the Indian market in the year 2022 alone.
However, to facilitate mass adoption of 5G technology in India, experts emphasise the importance of introducing affordable 5G smartphones in the sub-Rs 10,000 price segment. This affordability factor will play a pivotal role in enabling a wider section of the population to access and benefit from the advantages of 5G connectivity, as highlighted in a previous study conducted by CMR.
The efforts of major telecom operators, such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, in rolling out their 5G networks since October 2022 have played a crucial role in expanding coverage across various parts of the country. Their contributions have been instrumental in making 5G connectivity a reality for many Indian consumers.
