Vodafone 3G – No Video-Call Without Data Packs

It seems that Vodafone has learnt to walk against stream. After burning their hands by providing WAP pack instead of true GPRS pack now they have started providing Untrue 3G Video Calling service.

In various telecom circles , Vodafone 3G services can only be enjoyed when you are subscribed to any of their 3G data packs even if you don’t need 3G data. While MTNL/BSNL and Reliance providing Video Call services by default and other private operators like Airtel, Aircel, Tata Docomo, Idea Cellular allow Video Calls with ‘Pay As You Go 3G plan‘.

The worst part is if you are in need to receive video call from someone staying far away from you, there is No Incoming video call facility those have No 3G data pack recharged on Vodafone.

However few years back, In the initial age of 3G services in India, both the PSU MTNL and BSNL didn’t allow 3G Video Calling without Any activation of 3G Data /Voice plan but they removed all barriers to popularize the 3G Video Calling  in India (Remember BSNL 3G Ad ?) and  now a days the 3G scenario is completely changed and almost all operator providing 3G Video Calls without any 3G data packs Except Vodafone !

In the primary stage of 3G Era, Data-packs are really very costly in all private 3G operators for a big portion of consumers. While 3G video call is comparatively pocket-friendly in PSU MTNL and BSNL for 1p/sec or 30p to 70p/min and bit premium rates in all private 3G operators which costs Rs.3/Min or 5p/Sec is genuinely making people interested towards 3G.

During the time of competition among private operators this type of in-discrimination is really creating a barrier between people and 3G. Vodafone 3G data packs starts from Rs.103 (for 100MB data) and to make/receive video-call one must have to recharge with it or higher.

Lets have a look on this issue:

Operators Notes
Aircel /Airtel / Idea Cellular After activation of 3G you can enjoy 3G services incl. data and video calls. But if you like to use 2G data packs, you have to deactivate 3G.
Reliance GSM 3G come to everyone by default i.e. 3G data services and video calling is activated automatically. But if 2G data pack is recharged, speed will be capped till the validity period of 2G data pack.
BSNL / MTNL BSNL /MTNL are offering video calls to 2G/3G users by Default with lowest tariff compare to all private operators. While to enjoy 3G data you need to activate 3G.
Vodafone For video calls (outgoing/incoming) you need to activate any 3G Data Pack with minimum recharge of Rs 100 per month which comes with 100 MB 3G data.

Following the recharge you can access Vodafone HSPA network to make video calls.

In brief 2nd largest operator in India Vodafone messed up the 3G thing. What do you think about Vodafone 3G?

Many operators operate on 3g network even if you pay for 2g; customer care says that if the network is good enough, 3g will work but bandwidth wont be given priority.

Is this true for Vodafone also?

Vodafone is completely absurd. Firstly I don’t understand why I need to get a 3G pack to make video calls or use web thru 3G. I should be able to do both without any extra recharge at default rates. Secondly there is no way to do the 3G recharge online. I do not want to run to shops for recharging my mobile.
Dont go for Vodafone if you are not already there and if you are already with Vodafone get out as soon as possible!!

Dear Vodafone, please explain why do i need data plan for making video calls. Video calls need 3G service and for activation of 3G service, data plan is must. Dont you think this is unfair to force customers to pay for another service to get access to first service. Are you getting that down to generate revenues.

I dumped the SIM and will never use any vodaphone no. even if they pay me to use it. F*ckist brand, never go for it. Sahil, yes that is absolutely right. I think, corporate plans makes more money as their monthly rental is not less than rs.275/- at least. So just imagine even if a group of 30-50 people takes corporate plan from a single company, how good it will be for Vodafone.
One of my friend working in IT company said me that he will be switching from Idea to Vodafone because Vodafone has offered a good corporate plan in the same rates as Idea and that too with some free 3G data usage.

I believe in BSNL best hai mere liye and i also have a working number of BSNL.

Everyone here is to make money. Operators like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone make money because of good network and Docomo, Aircel, Uninior because of tariffs.

Now the decision is left with us, and we can choose anyone as per our need.

I am not taking side of any mobile company but just sharing my views with you guys.

Today i went to IDEA office and asked for a prepaid connection, and i also inquired that whether i can do video calling without opting 3G pack, they said “NO” So it’s all same in IDEA and VODAFONE.

both idea and vodafone are g@# partners. if you see 99% of their products, services and policies are the same. they are a bunch of g$# cartel!

I am using Idea in nashik, maharashtra and can make/receive video calls without recharging a 3G data pack.
I think some people here just come for doing time pass and share false information. First you should confirm it and then only post.
About Vodafone, what makes vodafone strong is their network, and postpaid corporate plans. That is why in most of the companies, vodafone corporate plans are preferred than any other operator plans as they are best from all most of the time.

If vodafone can give good scemes to corporates then why discriminate with aam aadmi or geberal public. corp plans and retail plans can slightly differ… nothing wrong with that… but earth and sky difference is not acceptable. just because vodafone has good network doesn’t give them license to loot and cheat people and be discriminatory!

With power comes responsibilities! I don’t see any difference between our corrupt politicians and vodafone… both out to loot and rape indian people!

Per month subscribers addition is not a real indicator of genuine customers for any companies. Here are few reasons for selling sim card free of cost with bundled offers-
    1. Companies get adiitional spectrum (which is most scarce resourses for them) after reaching at certain subscriber base as mentioned by trai.
    2. Dealers try to meet their target imposed by operators in order to recieve high cut-off and margins in terms of revenue.
    3. High subscribers addition growth rate shows sound marketing position with better brand image and goodwill in an economy which force them to sell simcards at much cheaper rates with bundled offers.
Somehow COAI has ever supported Big players (Airtel, Vodafone & Idea)and dicriminated with some operators which are known to many of us due to which people rejected its “ACTIVE SUBSCRIBERS NUMBER” survey and trated it as biased.

yes UPEN you are right but the foremost factor is the belief the common people have in VODAFONE they have reputation of no(probably less) unfair balance deduction and have attracted not only corporates, businessmen, high ranking executives but also “AAM AADMI” for their good customer care, these two advantages are the not enjoyed by other biggies like AIRTEL,IDEA.

I also switched from Airtel to Voda due to bad network in my home, but i didnt find any problem, i only use Voda for calls/sms only and nothing else. so i think thats why it is good.

I have used it in Gurgaon, just to test, works fine, coverage is fine too, the only thing is that speed is pretty low, hardly reaches 2MBPS on Desire HD, that is capable of 14.4MBPS. It’s speed is comparable to MTNL 3G, though the cost more than 3-4times. I would anyday prefer MTNL for use in my data card atleast. 21MBPS, what a joke….. Vodafone is most stupid network provider…. soon people will realize.

I switched to Voda once MNP came from Airtel. Only to realize what a terrible mistake I had made, had to buy new Airtel no. again. Now waiting for 90days to get over so that I can switch to Airtel or may be Relaince. Screw Vodafone.

Why is anyone surprised at this anti-consumer move by Vodafone? Vodafone’s character is like that only. If it does something good, fair and honest, only then people should be surprised and shocked!

Actually, Vodafone is not to be blamed. Its foolish Indians who opt for this British companies services should be blamed. Vodafone thinks that since some foolish idiots are buying its services despite all golmal, lets’s continue doing it! Only when people stop using Vodafone’s service it will change itself. Till then it will f*** and r*pe indian customers.

Telecom Talk Please Also Highlight the Fact that VODAFONE doesn’t have any Software Installed for Postpaid users to check the Data Usage. Postpaid using any 3G or 2G data Pack or VMC cannot check the amount of data they have used until the end of the month when they get there Monthly Bill. I am a Vodafone VMC user and I am in no position to check my daily date usage. How can TRAI allow all this?

3G Video Call Service should be made mandatory without any data Packes by TRAI!!!!
    This is Ridiculous!!!

Airtel , Idea, BSNL ,Docomo all offer 2G data plans even if you have 3G active on the sim,
I dont know why vodafone is always acting extremely foolish they will do it in future when customer abuses them.

in kolkata voda postpaid dnt hv any national sms pack below Rs.125 per month.
    in prepaid they r offering 500 l/n sms for rs 51 & unlimited l/n sms for rs.80.

in post paid they dnt hv any ture gprs pack(vmc) below rs.199 per month thats nt all, there is no free uses, after activating this pack they will charge 5p/10kb for uses……….

in prepaid they r offering rs.98 vmc pack with 2gb free uses.

can any body justify this kind of cruel discrimination within a same circle, what vodafone think postpaid customers dosent knw any thing abt prepaid offerings?????

Yes, this is the sign of real MNC. Kaha gaye wo sab log jo bada vodafone.. vodafone karte rhte hain. This is the only operator who offers different plans in different states. Where it has gud coverage and good subscribers base (ex- delhi, mumbai, gujarat, maharastra, etc) offers costlier tariffs and where it is competing with new entrants (ex- bihar, w.bangal, etc) offers cheap tariffs to attract customers.

This is the only service provider which discriminate with indian people. Bhai Angrej chale gaye but divide and rule policy chhod gaye (which is being executed by the British company VODAFONE to rule over indians and drew more and nore money as possible to take away from this country).
