We have been getting reports from our esteemed readers and also from twitter users that since today afternoon Uninor Mobile service/ network is completely down in many circles across India and there is No sign of network till now as we report.
When we checked with our internal sources we came to know that there has been some fire incident/major technical issue at Uninor’s data center and Uninor HLR (Home Location Register) is cut off from the entire core network, we are also hearing some major POI connectivity issue is the reason behind the downtime although its unconfirmed reports.
Surprisingly even Uninor.in website seems to be down and there is no official update from Uninor team yet in twitter or in its official FB page.
Presently Uninor is opertaing commercial mobile services in 13 circles – Kerala, Chennai – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Kolkata, West Bengal, Bihar & Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West, Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai and Gujarat. The GSM services are down in most of all above circles as we are getting continues updated from verious sources and Uninor users across all circles.

From Sources, Uninor is gng to shut down 4 circles in this month & rest of the remaining circles in another 1 month. this govt has not left any other option to these companies.
it is a very bad time for India as these foriegn investors are returning home with hell lot of bad memories from india….

I paid money to retailer for topup, but it didnt happen. i cant call or msg anyone even for emergency.. too bad!

I had told that more than 10 companies are intersted and not 10 more companies are interested. Both have different sense. Soon we will get the list on DoT website when NIA will be issued.
BTW Arka is right that maximum 2 operators can get 5MHz. 13.75MHz of GSM spectrum will be put on auction and the block size is 1.25MHz. So companies will atleast bid for 4 blocks to have 5MHz in their kitty. Supreme court had asked DoT to put all the spectrum they receive after license cancellation on auction but Govt has decided to auction 13.75MHz per circle only which has created artificial scarcity of spectrum. This has been done for aggressive bidding by operators which is quite unfair to the ones who lost their licenses.
Beside this Sistema or MTS was only operator to receive CDMA spectrum in 2008. I’m not sure whether this will happen again means only one bidder for CDMA or not. But companies who are willing to continue operation will bid to get back their licenses.
The one or two good things I find in auction terms is mortgaging of spectrum and only 35 percent of upfront cost. But don’t know whether banks will be ready to lend to new operator if they win license. Banks are also talking cautious approach as their exposure to telecom sector is already very high.
It’s not 2003-04 when you can expect a boom in telecom. Risk is much more today. So lenders will think many times.

I’m a uninor customer in chennai , and some services are getting down in uninor like call to 50001(dedicated for plan and pack details) not working , free talk plan for 5 sundays to uninor not working etc ! Will they intimate us if they exiting ? Or is the right time to switch to another network ? Pls clarify !

Fire broke encidence is tradegy for uninor customer as well uninor management i think all services will be restore shortly .uninor team is working for faster restoration of entire services. I am writing this on behalf of telecom employee . It may happen with Any operator . It was already happen with Bharti Airtel Mumbai circle in July 2008 . I was member of rescue restoration team in that day.
we wish for early restoration of services for customer as well Employee of uninor.

Why to cry? They are bound to stop services in next 33 days. So what’s the big deal if they stop it now or then. I think those who have Uninor or any other operator whose licenses has been cancelled, as their primary number should start considering port-out. I think the services has been resumed now.
Though the services were down in many circles but at my place in Haryana, Uninor signals are always live and never go down even during power cuts. They have around 459 customers in Haryana. lol
Update: DoT has said that more than 10 companies have shown their interest to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction.

In Gujarat,my uninor no. working properly i.e imcoming/outgoing both properly working.i havn’t faced any nework problem till yesterday and today.and my all uninor friends @ various places also havn’t faced any problem.
