Aircel shows a friendly gesture to it’s Chennai users for its Network outage on Dec 26, Offers Free SMS

Not only the bad, even the mi-nute of the good things should be highlighted and with that responsibility and response to the feedback received from our Readers we just wanted to highlight a nice gesture from Aircel Chennai.

It happened that on 26th December Aircel’s Chennai network was affected for more than 2 hours due to a technical glitch from Operator’s end. All Voice & Data services were affected and users faced many problems.

Aircel’s statement said:

“Aircel network was interrupted for two hours. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers. This was due to a technical snag which has been addressed promptly and all services have been restored completely.”

Though, the issue what Aircel Chennai customers faced on 26th December was bad which not only degrades the faith and reliability on them from customer’s perspective,  Aircel could have simply apologized and sent an sms for the same and left the issue. But it has not done so, in-spite showed a friendly gesture and offered 100 free local sms on 1st Jan 2014 for it’s customers in Chennai. This shows Aircel wanted to show their customers that they care for them.Though users are using sms or Whatsapp on Blackout days is a different scenario but the act which Aircel has showed really is appreciated by many users.

Dear Customer,

We deeply regret the inconvenience caused due to our service disruption on the 26th December 2013. As a token of our appreciation for your patronage and support, we would like to offer 100 free local SMS on the 1st of January 2014.

Dear readers, how did you feel about this friendly gesture from an operator and offerings to customers as a token of appreciation for bearing with them? Let us know via comments.

For Chennai concen, Airtel is most recommended and preferred 900Mhz operator among youngsters only. Then Aircel. Because, Aircel and Airtel is always having voice clarity, full signal point/constant/strong coverage in all time. The same is flowed by idea. Before DoCoMo operations in Chennai. most of the chennai college girls and office going ladies’s first choice is vodafone because of Colourful ad. Now DoCoMo penetration is much higher than the Vodafone due to cheap tariff.

Here in Chennai, Even today the Bloody Vodafone 2G network, The only network is having very worst coverage (more and constant signal fluctuations is there) especially in Indoor across chennai along with its flagship irritating beep sounds before call connecting, worst voice clarity. One of the reason is it using old 1800Mhz network. Even other 1800Mhz operators (Idea, Tata DoCoMo and Reliance GSM)’s overall indoor coverage and Voice clarity is much better. Especially the bloody beeps sounds, you cant hear the same in other 1800Mhz operator in Chennai. Eventhough VF 4th operator of Chennai, This is the only reason vodafone is still failure brand in Chennai. But the bloody rascals only focus on publishing colourful bubbles (various Ad). Vodafone is still nothing in front of Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea and DoCoMo across Chennai. In RoTN, VF is being the first and old mobile operator using 900Mhz network and its coverage is ok. But still its not enough indoor coverage in Rural areas of TN. Still VF is not matching with Aircel RoTN’s BTS.

      @ SKG (Sathish Kumar, Gobichettipalayam)
You seem to have a “bloody” thing against the Voda guys … why? If you dont like it, PORT OUT!

      >> across chennai … its flagship irritating beep sounds before call connecting .. it using old 1800Mhz network.
the FREQUENCY (1800Mhz) has NOTHING to do with the “beep” sound. This sound is part of an option in the MSC (Switch) called CALL PROGRESS TONE or CPT. It simply indicates that the call is in the process of being setup. Same has been enabled by Voda to ensure that the caller (A Party) knows that the call is being transferred thru the POI (Point Of Interconnect) to the destination number (B Part). This is advisable if the call setup time (between 2 networks) is > 5-7 seconds, as most people would not know if the call is getting connected OR has been transferred to the B Party network and is going to be “unreachable”. This I have learnt across 1½ decades of experience in Telecom.

Thanks for the info! FYI Tata Indicom uses CPT all over India, & yes Vodafone & Idea in some circles. IMHO they sound pretty cool :)

*Even I am from Chennai and even though I am not a telecom analyst I can very well claim that vodafone’s network is far better than idea.If u go to basin bridge you won’t find idea’s network present whereas vodafone is present and basin bridge is not exactly a rural area infact its very much a urban area and comes within the 4 km radius of Chennai Central. So this essentially means that if you board a train from central and happen to pass from basin bridge you wont get idea’s network.

*Vodafone is far better than docomo in TN look at the pathetic state of internet which docomo has to provide and compare it with vodafone and you will understand which is better.

*The only place where I have not found network from vodafone is ritchie street and that too because its a densely populated area and this where the 1800 mhz limitation comes into play.

*For the past 7 months I have been a rather happy vodafone user in chennai.Yes airtel has the best network but its too expensive compared to vodafone.

Even Vodafone is Not Par with Aircel, AirTel, Idea and BSNL Coverage in Karnataka. You’ll not get Vodafone in Most of The Areas where Other Operators Exists. For Example : G K V K Campus Nearby Chintamani of Chikkaballapura District, You’ll Get Aircel, AirTel, Idea and BSNL Where Vodafone will Have Zero Signals

Few days ago BSNL had a similar breakdown in Kerala but nobody cared to send even an apology SMS…

    • Kaushik Roy December 31, 2013 2:17 pm

BSNL has breakdown for 2 to 3 times in a month and if some one is lucky then its once in a month
So how many times they will apologies to customers by offering free onnet or sms ?
BSNL already in loss and it will increase the amount of loss

Good decision to control chennai aircel customers move to other operators…it happened on Dec 26 , if this issue happened on X-mas day or new year day .. it will impact on their customer strength …after that god only saves aircel..

    happy new year Aircel..!

  • Aam Admi December 30, 2013 10:49 am

In 5 circles they closed down their operation. Nobody said a sorry.
I’m from Kerala circle. They don’t even informed me about that.

    • DUANE January 1, 2014 1:29 pm

@ Mango Man – in case of AIRCEL they took a Business Decision to close down their operations … you want a “sorry” for that ?

  • Vinayakan December 30, 2013 9:02 am

    Hars off Aircel…
Its gppd model for other greedy Airtel voda idea..

  • Kris December 30, 2013 8:52 am

MNP Threat! Do not know how many Chennaities send PORT msg to 1900.

  • AsitPaul December 30, 2013 4:48 am

Only 2Hr service blackOut and so much chaos? Come NE/ ASSAM Circle. Vodafone is known for its too frequent service down. Once gone, you cant get signal in 2/3 days. If Aircel down, it will take 48Hr to resume. Same with Bsnl. Only AirTel is giving non stop signal, but, ofcourse, with much higher Tariffs than Vodafone.

    • XYZ December 30, 2013 8:42 am

      @ AsitPaul
Aircel in Chennai is widely used you can say huge consmer as compared to other city so they provide this service

  • Ganesh Srinivasan December 30, 2013 4:44 am

It happened in Bangalore also spread over few days. They didn’t offer any goodies. Lucky Chennaites

    • Raj December 30, 2013 9:04 am

I am in bangalore ,but i never faced any signal problem.

Even though the company didn’t specify the reason for outage but its almost certain that the network crashed due to overload. Aircel has the highest no. Of customers in chennai and ROTN circle and to add up the burden, it has to handle reliance, tata docomo and international roamers as well.

Aircel must cancel its IRCA with both the companies. That would benefit its users.

    • Sathish Kumar, Gobichettipalayam (TN). December 30, 2013 11:10 pm

Without Aircel RoTN network, Tata DoCoMo 2G and Reliance GSM 2G will not run their operations for single day in Rest of TN, but in chennai both network can manage at some extend without Aircel in Chennai. All the Reliance 2G Prepaid GSM users are now allowed to use Tata DoCoMo network (by select manual setting) across Chennai. Likewise all Idea 2G users are now allowed to use Vodafone RoTN network in limited areas. But kindly note idea users will be charged extra while using Vodafone network. But in Tata DoCoMo and Reliance GSM is not charge anything extra while using Aircel network. Reliance GSM is also not charging any thing extra (even data also, now its fast moving 2G internet pack RC195=5GB for 30 days) while their customers using Tata DoCoMo network in Chennai. If use 2G internet in Reliance GSM Prepaid, Better to choose Tata DoCoMo network in manual network setting. Its voice clarity is better and its always much faster in all time than the Reliance GSM network, that is why. There is no extra charge.

In our circle, up east, aircel’s coverage is very very poor. If you go out of the city, its going to be not reachable. The main reason being reliance, its ICRA partner, which again has the worst network. Same story in delhi circle, aircel’s network is better but reliance network is pathetic. In metros and subways no signal. Airtel’s network is best in terms of coverage (vodafone has greater coverage than airtel in delhi) and its high speed data services, voice clarity. In up east, vodafone overall has the best service in every respect.

        AVOID rules in north.

Why Aircel Is Not In Solapur City?
    Though I like Aircels move!
