The 1800MHz band had a double significance in the recently concluded auction, for one it was a viable fall-back band for an operator who lost his 900MHz spectrum and needed an alternate band to continue its 2G services and the other it was usable for 4G services on FD-LTE platform with a mature ecosystem of devices. All operators who participated in the auction apart from Uninor bought spectrum in this band in one or more circles. Below is the list of operators and the circles in which they won 1800MHz spectrum along with the quantity won.

Out of the 7 circles where Rcom’s 900MHz licences are expiring in December 2015 it was able to win back 2 in the 900MHz band while in North East and Odisha circles it has bought 5MHz each in the 1800MHz band and will have to shift its operations from 900 to 1800MHz band.
Reliance Jio had 1800MHz spectrum in 14 circles and in this auction it has added 4 new circles and topped up its holding in two existing circles. Now Reliance Jio has 1800MHz spectrum in 18 circles.
Aircel added a chunk of 10MHz in this band in Tamil Nadu circle and this is the only spectrum it bought in the entire auction. The incumbent operators just topped up their existing holdings in the 1800MHz band.
