West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the City of Joy is going to be the first Wi-Fi enabled city of the country in coming two months at the inaugural session of the 39th International Kolkata Book Fair.
“I am also happy to announce that Kolkata will soon be a fully wi-fi enabled city in the country. This facility will be extended to Park Street and neighbouring areas by February, 2015 and to the next of the city in next two – three months,” said Banerjee.

“From February 5, free 4G Wi-Fi Internet service will be offered at Park Street and its surrounding areas and within next two months the whole of Kolkata will enjoy the free service” she added. “The work for the 4G is complete and I congratulate the Reliance Company for making Kolkata a Wi-Fi city. This will transform Kolkata into a networked society — smart, simple and secure,” she added.
