Malaysian telecom operator Maxis has unveiled its Mobile Identity solution, designed to provide secure authentication for mobile users. The solution utilises telco verification application programming interfaces (APIs), beginning with the Number Verify API. The Number Verify API authenticates mobile devices by verifying that the provided phone number corresponds to the one used on the device, leveraging real-time telco data.

With this solution, mobile numbers can be verified against valid and active numbers in the background without requiring users to leave the platform. Additionally, it enhances security by reducing customers' exposure to scams and fraud associated with SMS verification. This makes it particularly beneficial for customers of financial service providers, such as banks, and e-commerce platforms, according to the operator.
