Huawei has finally introduced the successor to Kirin 659 octa-core chipset in the form of Kirin 710. The all-new Kirin 710 chipset powers the Nova 3i and is a major upgrade when compared to its predecessor. The first major highlight of the new SoC is it's built on the 12nm manufacturing process, meaning the chipset will be powerful and power efficient at the same time. The company has upgraded the GPU to ARM Mali-G51 MP4 and of course when we talk about Huawei, the AI buzzword will be heard a lot. Huawei says the new chipset offers AI photo features to take the photo capturing experience to a new level in the mid-range segment.
The Huawei Kirin 710 SoC features four smaller ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz and the other four are Cortex A73 bigger cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. Coming to the ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU, Huawei promises a 1.3 times boost in the graphics performance when compared to ARM-Mali T830 MP2 GPU present on the Kirin 659. In addition, Huawei claims the graphics performance will further be boosted with the company's GPU Turbo technology.
The Kirin 710 SoC has dual 4G and dual VoLTE support, which has become a standard feature with chipsets in 2018. It's claimed to offer Cat 12/Cat 13 LTE speeds of 300 Mbps downlink and 150 Mbps uplink. The chipset supports Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0.
Furthermore, Huawei stated the new chipset delivered 75% better single-core and 68% better score on multi-core tests on Geekbench benchmark report. Huawei released more than ten smartphones with Kirin 659 SoC. Finally, it's good to see a new mid-range SoC from the Chinese company. Huawei is also reportedly working on the successor to the Kirin 970 high-end chipset.
The Huawei Nova 3i, which was launched yesterday was the first handset to come with all-new Kirin 710 SoC. Notably, Huawei is also launching the Nova 3i and Nova 3 smartphones in India on July 24. The Nova 3i is the same Huawei P20 Lite smartphone with a new chipset. It will be interesting to see how Huawei prices these devices in India.
