Telenor got a good news as Uninor has announced that the company has achieved break-even in Uttar Pradesh East, first in India and fastest break-even by any mobile operator in any circle in India.

Uninor has estimated to break-even in calendar year 2013, and this milestone is achieved ahead of the estimated time period.

Now Uninor's operations in UP East are on positive note - revenues are higher than operating costs (EBITDA break-even). In UP East Uninor has 7.2 million customers.

In a company press release Uninor said that in UP East Uninor incurs a cost of 18 paisa per minute, lowest in the circle. And spectrum usage is 40% more efficient than any operators.

Telenor is very positive about Indian operations, as the company founded a new Indian subsidiary called Telewings Communications with Lakshdeep Investments and secured 5 MHz spectrum in 6 circles - UP East, UP West, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

These circles count for more than 50% of India's population and mobile penetration is as low as 40%. Telenor is expecting break-even in remaining circles in coming months.
