Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run telecom operator, is currently testing Live TV services in Madhya Pradesh. This was confirmed by the company recently. The Live TV services are being offered with the FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) connection. BSNL said that the data consumed for BSNL Live TV will be unlimited and not deducted from the FTTH plan.
BSNL is likely looking to compete with Airtel and Jio in the entertainment segment. People who are purchasing fiber connections can definitely leverage high-speed connectivity to consume IPTV (internet protocol TV) content.

The app for the Live TV is now available for users in Madhya Pradesh. The name of the app is BSNL Live TV and it is published by WeConnect. At the time of writing this, there are 1000+ downloads for the app and 31 reviews with a 2-star rating out of 5.
IPTV services are in trend as major players like Jio are now bundling it with the fiber connection so that users can find all of their entertainment under a single bill. Jio offers free STB (Set-Top Box) whereas with BSNL, it is a different scenario. BSNL is asking users to download the app on their Android TVs. It will be supported on Android TV 10 and above.

It is yet to be seen if the app is supported by other platforms such as Amazon Fire TV Stick and more. At present, the testing is only happening in the state of Madhya Pradesh or that is what we are aware of. BSNL will use the results from this test to optimise the service further to make it better for everyone in the future before a wide-scale rollout.
