India’s National Telecom backbone and Pan India 3G Mobile service operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today slapped a Rs.2.60 crore penalty on leading Mobile Service provider Bharti Airtel for foul play and misusing its mobile numbers before the official launch of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in Madhya Pradesh circle.
According to the BSNL, Before the official launch of Mobile Number Portability, Airtel transferred its calls to BSNL MP Network, as a result lot of BSNL Mobile subscribers began receiving promo calls from Airtel which has requested BSNL subscribers to switch to Airtel via MNP.
State Operator BSNL also taken this the issue to the DoT's Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell. Meanwhile BSNL has sent a Rs 2,60,82,825 (2.6 crore) Demand note to Bharti Airtel. The money includes the calls made by Airtel from BSNL network and the penalty for misusing the system.
BSNL has also restricted the incoming and outgoing calls on Airtel's Mobile and Landline networks in MP.
According to Mr. Punit Gupta, PRO, Bharti Airtel, "Issue will be resolved with in 2 days."
