Vodafone Essar, one of India’s leading cellular services providers, in association with Clean Mumbai Foundation (NGO) and the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC), today kick-started an initiative towards a clean neighborhood - eradication of garbage by adopting the Andheri-Kurla road.

The cleanliness drive was flagged off by in a special ceremony, Ashish Kumar Singh, Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC , Rohit Adya, Chief Executive Officer, Mumbai Circle, Vodafone Essar, and Kunti Oza, Clean Mumbai Foundation.

Through this initiative, Vodafone Essar aims to create a sustainable habitat by contributing to the cause of civic sense and public health. The Andheri-Kurla Road of Mumbai, soon to-boast of a metro line, is one of the most congested areas in the city. This road was chosen since it is home to the Vodafone Mumbai Circle office.

With the Clean Mumbai Foundation and the BMC rendering their support, Vodafone Essar Mumbai team has taken the initiative of ensuring the cleanliness of its neighborhood by championing the cause of keeping Andheri-Kurla road clean and garbage-free.

Determined to restore the pristine glory of their neighborhood, Vodafone employees along with volunteers from residential and commercial societies to lend their support to the cause were out on the streets armed with brooms and cleaning equipment.

The volunteers also educated people about hygiene, sanitation and waste management. In the pilot phase, Vodafone will install litter bins and planters along the stretch of the two kilometer long Andheri-Kurla road to encourage cleanliness and beautification of premises.

Speaking on the occasion Rohit Adya, Chief Executive Officer, Mumbai Circle, Vodafone Essar said, Vodafone in Mumbai has adopted cleanliness as a long term focus under the area of corporate social responsibility & to Contribute to the causes of civic sense, sustainable habitat and public health by adopting the Andheri-Kurla road.

The idea is to send out the message that we have to work together towards a garbage-free neighborhood. If every citizen takes up the task of cleaning the space in front of their homes or offices – just a little part of the street, the whole road would be clean! With this in mind, we have reached out to citizens to advocate the cause. We are also encouraged to have received support from the BMC and the Clean Mumbai Foundation.”

He further added, “Our vision is a road that we are proud to call our home – to work and live. We hope this initiative acts as a catalyst for the volunteers, residents and BMC to work together and serve as an example for others to emulate. We will extend this initiative across our zonal offices in the near future.”
