Well, here comes the much-awaited news. Xiaomi India has set a launch event on February 14. The official invite clearly shows a numerical '5' covered in two borders, which suggests the phone will have an 18:9 display. Going by the invite, we're expecting the Chinese company to launch the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in the Indian market. And at the same time, the company may announce the Redmi Note 5 for the Indian market.
This is the first major product launch from Xiaomi this year. And to be noted, the company already promised an exciting February, suggesting that there might be some surprise launches. Xiaomi is unusually silent in India this year. Over the last two years, the company kickstarted the new year with a bang by launching a new Redmi smartphone. In 2016, it was the Redmi Note 3, and in 2017, it was India's best-selling smartphone, the Redmi Note 4.
Hopefully, the company launches the Redmi Note 5 budget smartphone at the scheduled event. Rumours suggest that Xiaomi is working on the Redmi Note 5 smartphone, but it won't come out until Q2 2018. While some other rumours suggest that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 Plus smartphone as Redmi Note 5 with upgraded specifications.
To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China in December 2017. Both the smartphones are the first ones in the Redmi lineup to sport 18:9 displays. The Redmi 5 was an expected smartphone, but the Redmi 5 Plus was not an expected device because it is powered by Xiaomi's favourite Snapdragon 625 SoC. It's unlikely that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 Plus smartphone in India because the company is already selling three devices with Snapdragon 625 SoC.
However, there are a few chances that Xiaomi will bring the Redmi 5 Plus to the Indian market and replace the Redmi Note 4 with it for the same price. As of now, we don't have any information about what Xiaomi is going to launch in India. What will Xiaomi launch in India on February 14?
