Following huge backlash on social media, state-run telecom firms BSNL and MTNL were issued notices by the telecom ministry for not providing quality services to the customers. About 102 notices have been issued to the departments under this ministry and 64 have been resolved. BSNL now has an official page on Facebook to connect with people, the Economic Times said quoting an official. In fact, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has received complaints against the PSUs over poor quality of services on social media.
Prasad has asked BSNL to use the social media platform; however, BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava confirmed that the complaint monitoring mechanism on social media is working to resolve the issue.
"Since we are deploying new equipment, our capacity to handle more customers is increasing. That is why we launched free night calling service as we can handle large traffic now. We have most widespread network in the country which we are rapidly improving," Shrivastava was quoted in the report.
BSNL, which recorded losses for the past about eight years, registered an operating profit of Rs 672 crore for the fiscal year 2015.
Going by telecom operator TRAI’s guidelines, a customer can register his complaint by calling up the customer care or writing an e-mail to the telecom operator.
