With the craze around 4G LTE smartphones increasing day by day in the country, brands have been launching 4G compatible devices from the past 3-6 months. Xolo and Apple were one of the first brands to launch devices that are compatible with 4G LTE cellular bands in India, but they are no longer the ones who sell most 4G devices in the country.
According to a report by analytics firm CyberMedia Research, Samsung is the largest 4G LTE smartphone vendor in India with a market share of 30 percent. The South Korean smartphone giant topped 25 other brands, while Lenovo acquired the second spot with a market share of 21.8 percent. Xiaomi was placed at the third spot with a market share of 17.1 percent.
Samsung currently leads the market with 30 percent share of devices, emerging as the largest 4G smartphone brand. The Korean brand increased its market share from 24.5 percent in the first quarter (January-March) to 30 percent in terms of units shipped. The best selling handsets in the 4G/LTE segment were the A6000 from Lenovo and Redmi2 from Xiaomi. This indicates that the India market is being propelled by shipments of devices in the Rs.6,000-10,000 price range.
The best selling 4G LTE handsets in India were the Lenovo A6000 and the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which goes on to state that the market is skewed towards the entry-level price range. Apparently, Asus made its entry into the Top 10 segment, but Micromax's market share in the 4G LTE smartphone market declined from 10 percent to 6 percent. Due to the launch of mid-range 4G LTE smartphones like Xperia E4 and Xperia M4, Sony was able to acquire 5 percent market.
A total of 5.7 million 4G LTE smartphones were sold in India during Q2 2015 as the market grew 157 percent quarter-on-quarter. On the other hand, 4G data card market grew 107 percent, but the tablet market declined by 7 percent. Apple and OnePlus were one of the few brands whose market share declined.
