Jaxtr Inc, a company co-founded by Hotmail-fame Sabeer Bhatia, has launched a global SIM card that enables Indians travelling to foreign destinations cut down roaming charges by upto 90 per cent. Mr. Bhatia who made personal email a free comodity introducing Hotmail & later selling it to Microsoft, started Jaxtr as free messaging app - free messaging for everyone. Now with Jaxtr Global SIM he just took the right step - cheaper mode of communications.
Compared with similar other products, Jaxtr SIM provides savings of upto 70 per cent, Jaxtr co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Sabeer Bhatia said.
The company aims to sell about 1 million cards to Indian travellers over the next two years. The card can be used in multiple countries and multiple local numbers are provisioned automatically for each supported country.
Jaxtr has tie-ups with telecom carriers across 200 countries in the world, and newly launched card is a travellers’ card. Present regulations don’t permit its use in the country, he added.
Users can optionally maintain a permanent number in a chosen country for a monthly fee, starting from $1 per month. Jaxtr SIM works on all unlocked phones from basic feature phones to Android, iPhone and BlackBerry devices.
In addition to calling, texting and browsing, advanced features such as voicemail, SMS forwarding and voicemail to email are included for no additional charge.
