@ DHEERAJ – you are clearly missing the strategy: IDEA is targetting small towns, where there is hardly any good 2G coverage, no HSIA (CDMA) coverage and definitely no 3G coverage ….. this is intentional, in order to grab market share of the DATA pie.
    >> Utter nonsense from idea , they have launched 3g services in small towns like
    @DB
bro i know this strategy by idea but they are only few who actually have 3g phones in small towns and spending 750rs for 2gb is a huge burden for people who live in cities and forget about small towns.
It’s not that i’m against launching 3g services at small towns but they could have done the same in other big towns. Apart from hyd you already have airtel 3g, aircel 3g at in vizag , vijayawada but still idea launched there.
And another thing is that people may not try idea 3g in places like guntur, warangal, karminagar becoz they might already activated airtel, aircel & satisfied with their service and they may not try idea in future.
Why i’m angry on idea becoz idea is giving 3g signal for vodafone in AP and
Vodafone allows 3g speeds on 2g datapacks till 20th of july. What if idea launches 3g services after july, i cannot enjoy vodafone offer (3g speeds on 2g data packs). So, this really made me angry. Vodafone must force idea to launch 3g services at other big towns.

    Dear Sir,

Kindly provide your Idea cellular number for further assistance. You can For further assistance kindly log on to our Idea website. http://www.ideacellular.com.”

@novicefreak1 i use 7.2Mbps capable handset and Windows Mobile OS. BTB network signal bars Idea3G-5 sticks, BSNL 3G-about3-4 Sticks and yet BSNL3G gave good true 3G Speeds.

Apart from the network coverage, there are other factors like handset model and handset operating system that affect speed.
For example, my experience was that at the same location, while checking simultaneously, the speed on the BB Kepler handset was lower than Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia 5230 handsets.

Even within the BB OS handsets, BB Torch was giving better speeds than BB Kepler.
3G is also available in smaller towns like Gadwal, Pithapuram and Tadepalligudem.

thanks~ I also use BSNL 3G and its amazing fast. But, may be still vodafone is in testing phase so i assume edge and 3g were involved as 3G was intermittent in connecting

Vodafone 3G service is already live in AP. Vodafone has tied up with Idea in AP. Send ‘TRY 3G’ to 111 (toll-free) to activate the same. All existing 2G data packs will work on 3G as well till 20th July. Beyond the free usage limit, the 3G usage charges will be 10p/ 10 KB. Currently, Vodafone 3G is available in Hyd, Vizag, Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Kamareddy, Anakapalli and few other towns.

hi all…yes its true..Vodafone 3G now in hyderabad…Here are my results:
    1) Sent sms “TRY 3G” to 111
    2) Recvd reply from vodafone…”enjoy 3g with highspeed internet..etc”
    3) Recvd reply from vodafone…”request for 3G activation received would be activated in 24 hours…we will get back shortly”
    4) however no reply on activation conformation.
    5) But, I could able to select Idea3G on my phone’s network selection.
    6) Simple hassle free network selection.
    7) Internet connection working with same apn of vodafone.
    8) But, speeds not true 3G. I Tried at least 50 times to check max speed and I achieved a maximum of 1.17Mbps only once in these 50 trials. avg is around 300-400 Kbps only. Very fluctuating internet speed,,honestly not happy for the speed achieved so far. Time of testing between 1am-2am (mid night).
    9) Incoming calls working. Simple out going call not working..it says this facility not available …contact cc, video call not tried.

Overall, network selection of Idea3G possible on Vodafone sim, speeds not happy at all. Outgoing call not possible yet.
Thanks and hope this is useful.

Where Vodafone do not have 3G spectrum and Idea got the 3G spectrum, vodafone will use Idea,s spectrum. In bihar both vodafone and Idea do not have 3G spectrum that why vodafone is going to use Airtel’s network for 3G.

Thanks, I understand that Vodafone does not have Spectrum licence in AP. The topic here is of 3G network sharing b/w Vodafone and Idea as a case in Kerala. I intended to know, if there is any similar launch by Vodafone in AP with existing licence holders say BSNL, Idea, Airtel, Aircel.

If it shares its network, we have have pay for roaming charges as fixed by TRAI. Rs 1.75 for incoming. Rs 1.40 for local outgoing and 2.40 for national calls from visiting network.@Jagan

Good to see that 3G ICR has finally started… now we can expect the non-license holders to roll out 3G services, by piggy-backing on the existing (license holder) networks.
