From the last few days there was some rumors in Media, about Virgin Mobiles entry into GSM market But now its confirm news that Virgin Mobile is ready to enter in the GSM Mobile service space of India.

Headquartered in the UK, Virgin Mobile will go ahead with its alliance with Tata Teleservices to enter in the GSM market and expected to launch of GSM Mobile services from South India with in a week, using Tata Docmo/TTSL’s GSM network which has Pan India UAS license. Presently TTSL is operating its GSM mobile service in 15 telecom circles with the brand name of Tata Docomo. Virgin Mobile plans to launch its GSM Mobile services in Orissa, Maharashtra and North India by March 2010.

Virgin Mobile (India) the Youth oriented CDMA mobile service still hasn’t been able to pull enough subscribers with its franchisee model CDMA service. It seems that the entry of Virgin into the GSM space would give the operator an edge to reach out to a larger subscriber base. Presently around 70 per cent of the total mobile subscriber base in the country is GSM and Virgin Mobile’s entry into that space will help us expand our business reach.

According to the Virgin Mobile sources the offerings of the company in GSM would be based on the franchisee model. Apart from Indian operations, Virgin Mobile is GSM operator in the UK, France, South Africa and Australia and also offer CDMA services in the US and Canada.
