Less than a month ago, on September 8th to be precise, we shared the story MOBILE NUMBERS STARTING WITH “8″ LAUNCHED! Now exactly 12 days later the entire series of “80″ codes have been exhausted, as they have been allotted to various operators. The DOT has even announced the 2nd series in the “8″ level mobile numbers – “81″.
With mobile codes being exhausted so fast, it will not be long before the DOT has to announce the rollout of 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88 and 89 series.
Here is the newest list of mobile codes in the 2nd “81″ Series Mobile Numbers:
| Code | Operator | Circle |
| 8100 | Reliance GSM | Kolkata |
| 8101 | Reliance GSM | West Bengal |
| 8102 | Reliance GSM | Bihar – Jharkhand |
| 8103 | Reliance GSM | Madhya Pradesh |

Why can’t we dial toll free numbers from a mobile phone??
Will MNP help mobile operators improve their services in the country?
San September 23, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Yeah that solves the problem of roaming..
Devraj September 23, 2009 at 2:04 pm
@Duane
Yes Agnio I agree with U but in future SID will be replaced by Network means if you call to same network then you will be charged less and if you call other network you will be charged more irrespective of distance. Government should declare whole India as one circle
Devraj September 23, 2009 at 1:55 pm
If DOT goes numbering in this way then there will be no scarcity of numbers. DOT has taken a good design not to increase the digits

@ duane
reliance GSM 8080 series launched in mumbai or not?
Duane September 22, 2009 at 11:04 pm
@Agnivo
AGNIVO you are perfectly correct, in fact I predict once MNP is fully implemented across India you will not even have ROAMING … for example I can port my AIRTEL KOLKATA number to say AIRTEL ANDHRA PRADESH… then anyone calling it from AP will be charged local and I will not receive any incoming ROAMING charges too!
>In the future, hopefully we’d be seeing a uniform charging regime, nothing called STD or tariff difference to call up landlines.
Duane September 22, 2009 at 11:02 pm
@harish
HARISH, in AP AIRTEL has a new series 8008 just launched 3 days ago.
harish September 22, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Is this new ’8′ series available with any operators in Andhra Pradesh?
Agnivo September 21, 2009 at 1:17 pm
@Duane
Well, maybe I should try porting my RGSM to 8100 series… LOL
But RGSM official outlets are rare here (only retail and mobile stores etc stock them), will talk to CC.
Agnivo September 21, 2009 at 1:15 pm
@Suchisuvra Sen
In countries like the USA, they have number portability even for landlines as well as mobiles; one can port landline number to a mobile… and their land/mobile numbers cannot be easily distinguished; all are 10 digit! So, if they can go on fine, hope we can too.
In the future, hopefully we’d be seeing a uniform charging regime, nothing called STD or tariff difference to call up landlines.
Suchisuvra Sen September 21, 2009 at 12:17 pm
But some of the people may confuse at 8 series numbers.Even I have some of friends trying to add prefix of number 9.
Duane September 21, 2009 at 1:25 am
@Sachit
SACHIT good to see such enthusiasm… you never mentioned which CIrcle you are in. Do refer to the GSM codes page (MOBILE OPERATOR CODES at the top) and call the Customer Care number of the service provider you wish to avail.
They would ask you your location and direct you to the nearest showroom.
PS: Dont forget to carry your credit card/cheque book along if you want a fancy (VIP) number!
Sachit September 21, 2009 at 1:07 am
i want to book my number asap
Agnivo September 20, 2009 at 11:13 pm
You mean such STD codes in 8xx will be withdrawn or not? No, there would be no changes, just the free ones will be used for mobile msc codes.
altaf September 20, 2009 at 11:04 pm
i know that but wht i mean to say that as like the 95 series which was withdrawn from the landline the same thing will be happen or wht? i dont think so….
Agnivo September 20, 2009 at 10:57 pm
The conflicting STD codes have already been excluded from the 8xxx series.
Wow, we should see the 7xxx series hopefully in next half of the year.
altaf September 20, 2009 at 10:45 pm
wht abt STD codes of Bangalore ….it will conflict with mobile numbers
