In its endeavour to improve the quality next generation communication services, National Telecom backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is all set to enhance and upgrade its existing telecom infra in Chennai and Tamilnadu telecom circle.
Mr. Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of State for Telecommunications reviewed performance of BSNL Tamil Nadu and Chennai circles. The operator also launches “Pongal Bonanza” wherein its 2G and 3G mobile subscribers will get Full Talk Value on selected Top-Ups starting from Rs.55. The offer will be valid up to 18 January 2011.
Speaking about the services offered by BSNL, Mr Pilot, said that there are presently about 74 lakh mobile and 3G subscribers in Tamil Nadu, of which over 14 lakhs are in Chennai. He said that the Tamil Nadu Circle and Chennai Telecom District have already added over 23 lakh subscribers till December, 2010 and would continue their efforts under an ambitious expansion plan.
To ensure that mobile services are delivered to the remotest locations as well as to improve the quality of services, over 2200 mobile base stations (BTS) have been added in the Tamil Nadu. The 3G Mobile and Data services have already been commercially launched in 52 areas across the State including all district headquarters and major towns, Pilot added.
The Wire-line Broadband services would also be delivered to rural areas through WiMAX technology which enables high speed wireless Internet. The Minister said that Government’s agenda is for delivery of services to the doorsteps of the people.

Will someone please tell me, how to activate Rs 54 gprs plan (ie day 300 mb/night 2gb) or any 2g gprs plan via SMS, USSD etc. ????
My neighborhood vendors don’t know how to e-recharge for any GPRS plan.
(Note – GPRS is pre-activated on my SIM. I can currently use Rs. 1/MB. But i want to activate other affordable GPRS plan, like Rs 54 plan..)

When will BSNL enhance services in Maharashtra…in remote areas network coverage is pathetic?
On Mumbai – Pune Expressway network coverage is poor….when will BSNL wake up and do something about its network.
Indian telecom operators are not concerned about customers…services are not customer oriented.
Nobody listens to customer grievances and not willing to resolve the issues.
Though mobile tariffs in India are low compared to other countries but services are pathetic – no quality service provided.

BSNL reduced their CDMA unlimited tariff voucher in U.P.East. Now one can call unlimited free to all BSNL Local numbers and just 30p/min to all other local numbers on recharge of just Rs.150 STV. On STV 300 one can call unlimited free to all Local and STD BSNL numbers and all other numbers at just 30p/min. Validity 30 days.

The main area where BSNL fares better than other operators is in VAS. BSNL was the first to introduce live streaming television to its mobile subscribers in the country through its WAP Portal BSNLlive. People can watch their favorite channel for less than Rs. 1 per day, which is pretty decent considering the good A/V quality and wide range of channels. For Example in South States, they have all the Sun Tv channels, about 20 of them, and many others. And not just that, subscribers are also offered a wide range of options like Music, Movies and much more. Seeing their focus on quality services, they could well give the other operators a run for their money!

Manjoji- I thought it is an isolated case in Maharashtra. Well, what is the way out ?. Let us through this blogging media appeal to SANJAY BAFNAji for help. As is evident from his various postings concerning BSNL and MTNL, he can take up the issue at appropriate level and help us out ! Many subscribers will be benefited and may even change their mind of porting out of BSNL !!I can provide full details bit by bit regarding my tryst with BSNL in my circle ! Waiting response from Sanjayji – please !

@riju

Same problem facing here in U.P. East PD. The problem is that they don’t consider complaint through an email as a written complaint. They are living in 20th century.
Jose January 6, 2011 at 8:22 pm
East or west India is the best….
Don’t worry after 10 more years India will have it’s own technology and it can implement it’s own on it. Every new technology is first applied in De fence sector, which has the first priority for every nation. India has technology for defense communication which is best in the whole world. By the next 10 years this technology will be outdated and it will be to the public. So after 10 years India will be best communication technology. We are on the next phase of the development.
venky January 6, 2011 at 7:59 pm
@rohan
But this offer is for both std and local to any number for 24 rupees is that great offer if you compare with other operators
PD January 6, 2011 at 7:49 pm
@som
Well said. In fact they don’t do that. You get services from what is already in existence and concept of “upgrade” is not in their dictionary.==== A funny case of their nonchalance ==== In Maharashtra circle those subscribers having cell connections starting with 94030 and 94032 (may be applicable for a group of numbers too)will never be able to get a USIM specifically menat for 3G with 128 k mem cap. They can get 3g service (if and when available in their area) with th existing 2G sim. I have been knocking the doors of many concerned at the lower, middle and higher levels of HRs only to get IVR type answer – For the present you can’t get USIM of 128 k because the system is not accepting activation of the replacement sim with the same number. If at all hell bent, then get a new sim from their latest numbering series and forget the old num. I went upto DGM, MD and in the end CMD, BSNL, Delhi (through email at higher levels). Surprisingly in a typical buraroctratic style a nondescript PRO (without a name, tel. number, or email add.) from HQ Raigad circle sent a regret letter citing some lame excuse !
Anyone has Got an idea …..
som January 6, 2011 at 6:07 pm
BSNL network upgradation is a very funny thing.by the time they finishes one upgrade, they are late for the next upgrade by at least 10 years.
Karthik Kumar V G January 6, 2011 at 5:37 pm
So very soon we can see 21.1 Mbps 3G in Chennai. Thanks Sachin.
riju January 6, 2011 at 5:34 pm
Wrong man .kerala circle is the biggest circle for bsnl.
XYZ January 6, 2011 at 3:44 pm
BSNL customer service is pathetic no knows attends the call when we needed the most,
customer care people lacks technical knowledge about some basic 3G services as well as 3G plans.
jdjain January 6, 2011 at 3:36 pm
well, well , Bsnl is upgrading it,s network is old news.
what bsnl is now doing , that is the question?
I assume , Bsnl is now providing quality 2G service and not bad 3G service, most of the district and important town of punjab and tricity.
BSNL is in position to provide Broadband in villages using 4G wimax tech. it is great and silence thing happen
wt BSNL is now to do is ? Ready for next decade earlier , and reap the benefit
Get instant upgrade of their 3G network, make wimax availability to 100 percent of india , Lay optical fiber for FTTH for all over india using their existing infrastructure. USE CDMA tech for 2G voice and EVDO , cover all distric with evdo .
PD January 6, 2011 at 3:30 pm
Sanjayji – That means Sachin the Pilot , now last last, have access to the cockpit !!
Santu Sovan Mandal January 6, 2011 at 3:26 pm
Yes. Do it for pan india, not merely in a state.
PD January 6, 2011 at 3:24 pm
May be Sachinji’s Raja Syndrome (effect ?) or hangover is not over yet ?
A Mohapatra January 6, 2011 at 3:18 pm
And Odisha too ! In Odisha, 3G Speeds are struck at max. 1-1.5 Mbps !!! Do something for Odisha too.
sagar kinkar January 6, 2011 at 3:04 pm
It’s only for tamilnadu not for maharashtra and entire india. Tamilnadu means not full india Mr. Pilot. Please if you have to launch any plan on bsnl so please launch in whole India. Not only in tamilnadu. Because bsnl is company of govt. Of India not govt. Of tamilnadu.
rohan January 6, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Really great news for TN & Chennai BSNL subscribers, Mr. Pilotji please look for all over India doorstep service, India is not accumulated only in Chennai or South India, more business is only in Maharashtra circle so you need to think to improve Mh BSNL first then entire India, biggest & most revenue generated circle is only BSNL Mh, from where you are getting roaming revenue if anyone call from state capital(Mumbai) to in his own village, town, then you need to think that how much Govt is earning only from roaming.
Suman January 6, 2011 at 2:11 pm

Nilanjan January 6, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Don’t worry, Maharashtra bhi unke radar pe hai
Shivaram Krishnan January 6, 2011 at 1:50 pm
as if TN is the only place where BSNL lives and breathes.
PD January 6, 2011 at 1:49 pm
Why only TN ? Sachinji yeh Achcha nahi hai !
Gaurav January 6, 2011 at 1:47 pm
