Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has begun operationalising its new artificial intelligence subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence, marking a significant step in the conglomerate’s push into large-scale AI development and infrastructure. The unit will be led by Gaurav Aggarwal, chief AI scientist at Reliance Jio, who announced the move through posts on social media platforms X and LinkedIn last week. Reliance Intelligence has started hiring AI and machine learning engineers, with a focus on Indic-language model development, training pipelines, distributed systems, model optimisation, and new product incubation, according to an Economic Times report dated December 16.
Hiring Begins for AI Systems
“At Reliance Intelligence, we’re assembling a team that can push what is technically possible in India’s AI ecosystem,” Aggarwal said, inviting professionals with experience in large-scale deep learning systems to join the initiative.
"If you’ve worked on training pipelines, distributed systems, model optimization, or deep learning research, and want to operate at national scale - this is an opportunity to build something meaningful," he added.
Candidates can choose Mumbai, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad as their preferred location, according to the application forum.
Aggarwal assumed his role at Jio in May 2024. A former AI researcher, he has previously worked at Google DeepMind and IBM, and has led data science and AI teams at Ola and Snapdeal.

AI Arm to Anchor Global Partnerships
Incorporated in September 2025, Reliance Intelligence is a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL. The entity will house the group’s AI partnerships with global technology companies such as Google and Meta, while also playing a central role in executing Reliance’s data centre and AI infrastructure plans.
As part of this strategy, Reliance is developing a gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, underscoring its ambition to build national-scale compute capacity and strengthen India’s AI ecosystem.
