Google May Release Three Pixel Phones With Snapdragon 835 Chipset in 2017 Suggests AOSP Code

It’s been just six months since Google released the first batch of Pixel phones and the search engine giant already confirms that it would be launching next generation Pixel phones this year with premium tag. Rumours are rife that Google will release a premium Pixel phone and an affordable Pixel 2B smartphone.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Android Open Source Code reveals that Google is working on three smartphones with codenames - Walleye, Muskie, and Taimen. While the Walleye is touted as the successor to Google Pixel XL, the Muskie is said to be the next iteration of the Google Pixel, as per previous leaks.

There are no details about the mysterious Taimen, though. Some rumours claim it to be a new tablet from Google as the company did not release a tablet since December 2015. Also, Taimen means a gigantic fish, which means that Google may release the device with a massive screen, at least bigger than the Pixel 2 phones.

Along with the codenames, the AOSP code also revealed that all three of them would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. This essentially means that Google wants to differentiate the phones with only little changes, same as the Pixel and Pixel XL. Also, there won’t be any Pixel 2B if we consider this leak to be a serious one.

A recent concept of Pixel 2 phones revealed that it would come with the same edge-to-edge display and with Android O straight out-of-the-box. Speculations are rife that Google will stick with the same single camera setup as the first generation Pixel phones, but will further tune the software optimisations for better image output.

Google will release the phones in October 2017, and we’re expecting more rumours to pop up online before the phones go official. What features should Google include in the Pixel 2 series? Let us know in the comments section below.
