Telenor India today announced that it is supporting United Nations’ 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Telenor will spread the message around the UN goals to its 3,500 employees and reach out to its 48 million customers through its key communications channels, such as SMS and social media.
“By extending Internet connectivity to as many people as possible, we enable access to vital services, such as health and education, whilst also contributing to the UN’s Global Goals”, says Vivek Sood, CEO of Telenor India.
Last week United Nations launched these Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things over the next 15 years. The three big targets are: End extreme poverty, Fight inequality & injustice and Fix climate change.
The company said in a statement that it is also supporting the UN’s goal of Gender Equality by bridging mobile gender gap through ‘Project Sampark’. The company is leveraging the power of social media to spread the message about UN Global Goals.
Telenor India recently unveiled its new brand identity with a new revamped website. If reports are to be believed, the company will be spending Rs 100 crore on repositioning itself as "the most affordable service provider" in India, and it will also compensate consumers for call drops.
