Reliance launches Zero plan for existing GSM Postpaid subscribers

Rcom has been very aggressive lately with its marketing and offerings in the telecom sector, trying to increase its subscriber base and gross revenue per user. Reliance has come up with many ‘one of its kind’ offers and promotions that are unparalleled by any of the major Pan India operators. One such offering is the unique ‘Zero Plan’. This plan is a truly unlimited plan in the real sense of the term with absolutely no FUP (Apart from the 100 SMS a day regulation imposed by TRAI), it offers truly unlimited local and STD on net and off net calling, 3000 local and national SMS and truly unlimited 3G data (In 2G circles unlimited 2G data) including Pan India roaming.

Initially the zero plan was only available bundled with new handsets like iPhone 5S and Nokia Lumia 1520 purchased on EMI scheme from reliance by qualifying users with a credit card. Later reliance started offering the zero plan as a standalone plan for CDMA postpaid users for a duration of 6 months, 1 year or 2 years, but the number of CDMA subscribers with high speed EVDO handsets is fairly low so now reliance has extended this offering to existing GSM postpaid subscribers as well.

Existing Reliance GSM postpaid subscribers can purchase this plan through a down payment of Rs.20850 (Inclusive of all taxes) which will give them the benefit of zero bills for a duration of 24 months or 2 years. This comes up to roughly Rs. 869 per month which is highly value for money considering it offers truly unlimited 3G data. No other operator offers truly unlimited 3G data as of today, all of them have either an FUP or will charge base rate of 2p/10kb beyond free usage. In USA a plan comparable to this is offered by T-mobile for $80 per month which is approximately 6 times costlier than reliance. The T&C of this plan are as follows.

Though the T&C do not mention anything about data tethering and personal wifi hotspot usage on this plan, there are many users who have reported that it works just fine.
