Jio 5G is Free, But is it Really Unlimited

With Airtel and Vodafone Idea, while there's free 5G data add-on for the users, it is not truly unlimited. For a month, both Airtel and Vi have put a fair usage policy (FUP) figure of 300GB. No such limit exists for Jio consumers.

jio 5g is free but is it

Reliance Jio is offering 5G to users for free. But is it really unlimited? For Airtel and Vodafone Idea, there are limits. Both Airtel and Vi cap the usage at 300GB for approximately a month (for Vi it's 28 days). But for Jio, there's no such limit mentioned in the website. So what about usage? Can we use more than 300GB of 5G data on Jio's 5G network in under a month and still keep getting 5G data? The short answer is - yes. Jio is the only telecom operator in India that is offering truly unlimited 5G.

With Airtel and Vodafone Idea, while there's free 5G data add-on for the users, it is not truly unlimited. For a month, both Airtel and Vi have put a fair usage policy (FUP) figure of 300GB. No such limit exists for Jio consumers. So Jio users, on average get the fastest 5G speeds, but along with that, get unlimited 5G data as well.

If you want Jio's 5G, then you will have to recharge with a plan that comes with at least 2GB of daily data. Before July 2024, this was a slightly different rule. Back then, users got 5G with every plan of Jio which came for Rs 239 or more. After the tariff hike, the telcos revised the 5G benefit terms and conditions to push users to recharge with higher value plans.

This helps the telcos in pushing consumers to pay more for 2GB daily data plans and improve their average revenue per user (ARPU). In many circles, Vodafone Idea continues to offer 5G with plans that cost Rs 299 or more. This is an introductory offer from Vi and was removed from Mumbai some time back.

Jio's 5G is the most wide-spread in India, and as you read this, the telco is working on optimising the 5G networks and also deploying additional sites to cover more areas.
