Nokia Unveils Nokia 500 – New Symbian Anna OS Smartphone

Nokia today officially unveils the Nokia 500, the latest additions in its Symbian Anna OS smartphone family.

Nokia 500 is a touch-screen phone. It has 1GHz processor, 3.2-inch capacitive touch display, with a screen resolution of 640 x 360 pixels and a 5 Mega pixel camera.

The 3G enabled device offers HSDPA 14.4 Mbps speeds and equipped with Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi b/g, High-Speed USB 2.0 Micro USB connector and charging. The phone measures 111.3 x 53.8 x 14.1mm and weighs in at 93g – lighter than any other Symbian^3 phone to date.

The Nokia 500 will be available in Black and White varieties. And there’s three different-coloured back covers in the box. Nokia said that more colours for these will become available later.

Excluding any local taxes or operator subsidies, the Nokia 500 will cost just €150 before taxes and subsidies, and will be available from the third quarter of this year.

@vikas patidar,i have nokia e7 and an airtel connection, but never got speed more than 130 kbps(kilo bits).you must be really out of your mind.by the way i am using it in rural area where there is no congestion on edge network.and also the tower is right on my neighbour’s house ,so no question of range.

You believe or not . I don’t care but thats my personal experince. Again i’m saying in villages there is less voice and data traffic on networks thats why you can get such speed boost, however it depends upon the location and signal strength too but its only matters when sinals are less then 30%.

I get that speed only at my village. . Even here in Indore i never got speed more than 30 kBps. Hope you would get my point.

Technologies like ADAPTIVE FULL RATE offers u CLASS 33 level speeds as this technology enhances the network capacity by 50%( since voice & data travel in the sane channel u will get better internet speed) Uninor which uses this technology manages to offer consistent 200kbps with just 4.4mHz spectrum & very few towers,
And now with NSN’s DUAL FULL RATE technology the capicity is enhanced by 100%. So now technology has changed very much buddy. do u know HTC phones offers u better 2G speeds than even Nokia phones. Those phones support upto 560kpbs download speed.
With 3G still at sky high prices we still need 2G to surf internet
    http://www.htc.com/in/product/wildfire/specification.html visit this link

2G EDGE have a max speed of 236 kbps practically. Though theoritically it can be upto 473 kbps but HTC site link has given speed more than this limit even they have .not mentoined which class EDGE they are supporting. SO WHAT IS THIS???

It’s not EDGE then it’s Evolved EDGE which theoretical can reach upto 1Mbps and practically 600kbps.

Yup I also get 35-45 KB(upto 360 kbps) download speed on Airtel on my Nokia 2690 when i use it at my village. Thougi im not sure which class EDGE it support. But its fantastic for using internet on PC via USB or BT. But I have never got this speed on Samsung phones(not owing now, just sold out) even upto the 4K price range.

Companies like samsung,lg have gone dual core but nokia still stuck to its single core and although they have come out with a 1ghz processor for the first time but the same thing has been available from samsung and others since more than a year and a half.

look at the price of the phone then think whats wrong with your mindset.

so u mean nokia has dual core processor phones in high price range…..????

No, but you can expect those in near future. Probably in windows phone series. But remember if you are going to compare those Andoid dual core phones then scenario would be compeletely different here. Because architecture of andoid is different then iOS, MeeGo or Windows Phone OS. And It requires more powerfull hardware resouces to run the the newer versions of the OS. Thats why Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG are putting such high end pocessors to remain in flagship side but it results in less battery backup and Over heating problems etc. If you compares thore Dual core phones with the iPhone 4 (iOS), Nokia N9(MeeGo), Samsung Focus(Windows Phone) then probably all are winner than those Droid phones, in terms of performance.

Hey im not boasting about Nokia phones or something, I even own a samsung phone and my frind has Galaxy-3 which he brought for 12000, even that phone has CLASS12 EDGE.
To ur point yes it makes Lot of difference with browsing in a EDGE class 12 phone and EDGE class 32/33. higher the EDGe class the better the speed u get & even it works well in peak hrs. my samsung never crosses 150kbps with Idea connection but When i use the same service provider in Nokia Class32 phone i get a consistent speed of 32KB/SEC ( 250+kbps) I had even mailed the Screenshots to Tarun.
Even i like samsung phones but sometimes i get very annoyed with its poor signal reception( mostly 3G network) & battery that has got just 8-1year life.

I prefer Nokia over other models because of its good battery backup, I use smartphone for just Pushmail services, Document viewer to view & creat pdf,Word,Excel & powerpoint files & Internet..

Look at the price at whic they are offering, and it is equipped wit EDGE CLASS 33 and 3G speed upto 14Mbps. Samsung phones are still with EDGE CLASS 12 AND HSDPA 7.2mbps. For an operating system like symbain anna 1.2Ghz is very fast because the latest review of symbain anna by phonearena Whic compared nokia C7 Symbain 3edition Wit X7 anna Showed that symbain anna OS is faster and smoother than old symbain wit same 680mhz phone. So this phone will be very fast.

hey AMIT.G,undoubtedly you r a tech guy bt sumtimes it seems dat sum other person is using ur name to blabber in tt….u always boast abt nokia phones having such n such edge class n samsung phones with inferior edge class,my question is when non of the operators are providing edge 33 class speed, can the phone model alone can help a customer to browse at high speed….????ber in tt….u always boast abt nokia phones having such n such edge class n samsung phones with inferior edge class,my question is when non of the operators are providing edge 33 class speed, can the phone model alone can help a customer to browse at high speed….????

I have Google Nexus-S and my wife uses Google Nexus-one.
My phone is not used for voice callat all.I have a cheap Dual sim phone (3 day battery) with 2 permanent nos.
Android is used for twitter, mail,Web and various live Financial Trade Apps.( index, stock, commodity broker trading apps) ,bloomberg, reuters etc.) with out using WIFI but on 3G.
If I get in to train say @ 6pm ,by midnight it will die. Battery is a issue in android.
But can not use Nokia because of good battery.
Apple good battery/display but some how Iam allergic to their walled garden.
Android (now running 2.3.4) used to crash often .Now not any more.

My E52 gives 2.5 days back up in 3G mode, almost 2 hours of internet, aroun 20mins of video songs or mobile movie and 1 to 1.5 hours of call and aroun 20 sms per day. If i use in 2G mode with less internet usage it lasts for 6 to 7 days. Phone takes just 1.5hours to fully charge. My previous 5800 use to give 2 day back up wit moderate use in 2G mode.

But tier is one problem with super AMOLED Display. The display has less life compared to TFT. Now already many users irrespective of manufacturers have complained that their display has become black in some parts. LED has less life when compared to LCD But clarity wise it is very superior. I think once the phone crosses its warranty period then replacing a display will be very costly.

Use Black Themes instead of Lighter Themes on AMOLED Displays. You will get a good battery life.

When I used android for the 1st time the full charged battery lasted for 4 hr since I used it heavily and continuously for 4hr. The next day I just used it normally and it lasted for 8 hr. Then I downloaded juice defender and switched it to aggressive mode, then it lasted for 10-12hr. Now it has been near about a year using android. Now I know how to extend my battery life. Their are lot of things running in background. My cellphone when connected to internet gives a back up of 4 to 7hr when in 3G network. Which is again great, Nokia phones are not that much connected to the world with internet as android does. Those who want to save energy can disable data, switch to 2G mode, disable synchronizing mail and contacts, disable Wi-Fi, diasble GPS, download juice defender and switch to aggressive mode. Now see the difference. This way I got backup of 3 and a half days with just phone & SMS and nearly 15-25 min of internet. And when I just used it for just calls and few SMS it lasted near about 5 days. Even if u use internet heavily on Nokia as much u did with android u will get near about same results. Since when u use just a browser or using an application their are many data extensive processes running in background. Else u can stay with Nokia it’s ur choice … But android is going to stay with me ..

    Hi Ali,
Android OS is far ahead of Symbian OS. Today Android is the FIRST CHOICE for all smart phone manufacturer. Leave behind the international brands like Samsung, LG, Acer, Sharp, Motorola, Sony Ericsson who are using Android OS at large scale for their Smart Phones, now home grown players like Micromax, Karbonn, Spice, etc. are also choosing Android OS for their Smart Phone segment. I have been using Android since last little over one year and am very impressed with its features, capabilities and wide range of applications. While switching from Symbian to Android you might feel the battery back-up problem but this is part and parcel with all smart phones. So be assured and go for the Android OS. You will not be disappointed.

Nokia is giant and it will b forever..
samsung lg they provide cheap quality phones..
Just bought samsung galaxy s2 .. The best thing it’s android(google ka gift)
and the plastic used in it is cheap and battery backup sucks don’t last for a day
Have to charge twice a day for just max of 1hr call and 30-40 min of music..
And these lg samsung phones r not also durable..
Nokia and moto r only durable..

Nokia provides best hardware as symbian don’t requires a much heavy hardware..
will wait for for end of this year when nokia cums wid windows fone..

At Last :- samsung-Lg phones will now b buyed by anyone if there was no android in it..

We only buy samsung lg phones due to android os..

Guys get ready for another round of Tariff hike. Thanks to telecom comission Whic approved delinking of spectrum and licence and also reducing the permit validity from 20years to 10years. Even new operators like uninor will be in trouble as even ter permit validity will be reduced. Now telecom operators will have to share clear 8.2% of tier total revenue. All major operators who are havin more than 6.2mhz spectrum will be allotted 6.2mhz and rest of the spectrum should be purchased as per the market price,
THIS ALL HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE FOOLS GAME PLAYED BY PRIVATE OPERATORS WRT BIDDING OF 3G SPECTRUM WHIC MADE GOVERNMENT GREEDY AND NOW IT WANTS MORE FUNDS FROM 2G SPECTRUM AND LEFT THINKIN ABOUT END USERS.

Im using Nokia E52, from 8 months and its superb. Even my SAMSUNG S-5350which is 1.5year old is in good condition but battery has become weak.
phone’s life depends on how we use it, too much rough handling will definitely lower the life of ur phone, believe me im still using Nokia 1600 ( 4&half year old) which is excellent one & my favourite mobile,it has already clocked 1000hrs.

Nokia is best as far as quality of hardware is concerned except the processor speeds. But they are far behind the competition in phone software. I think the phone interface of Nokia phone is not bad at all. Most of the criticism come from lack of third party applications for Nokia Symbian OS. I don’t think most of the Indian people spend money on buying applications. Most of the time, we use default application. From that angle Nokia is not bad at all for Indian Market.

If my Nokia 5530 had lasted for more than 13 months; ie till 2012 3rd Qt then this would have been a good replacement. Too late Nokia, you should start churning out new phones before the last years model dies. And now the life of a Nokia is 1 year.

Does it have option for front camera for video-calling ? IF yes, the this will be better and interesting choice for the price of app, Rs.9500/- !

this nokia device is simply superb and economically priced with great features. It would be the best in cheap segment if video calling was included.

    @Nikkheil

    Nikkheil :
Companies like samsung,lg have gone dual core but nokia still stuck to its single core and although they have come out with a 1ghz processor for the first time but the same thing has been available from samsung and others since more than a year and a half.

look at the price of the phone then think whats wrong with your mindset.
