PT Telkom, the largest telecommunications services company in Indonesia has announced its plan to add 4K TV component to its Indihome fiber-based triple-play service. The company is working with set top box suppliers and content providers to make this a reality.
Prior to the actual launch, TelKom is running a trial run over its Indihome network. Initially, the services will be integrated with IPTV platforms and other hybrid Android platforms. The minimum connection requirement for an effective viewing is 50Mbps.
In India, Videocon d2h launched a preview of 4K Ultra HD DTH service in July 2014, following which it launched a 24 hour 4K Ultra Ultra HD multi genre channel on 26 January, 2015. The service provider telecasted 4K content available from international broadcasters on its service.
Tata Sky is another player in the same segment, which launched the first 4K broadcast in India, during the Germany vs France Quarter-final tie at the FIFA Football World Cup 2014. Tata Sky priced its 4K UHD set up box (STB) at Rs. 6400 for new subscribers and Rs. 5900 for existing subscribers.

For those who are new to the concept, the term 4K denotes a specific resolution – 4096 x 2160 pixels. When the full HD television sets as a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 4K resolution display will have four times the total number of pixels on a 1920 x 1080 pixels.
