Following Vodafone's announcement of reducing roaming rates, Aircel has also slashed its roaming rates as per latest directives released by TRAI. Aircel has informed by its subscribers by SMS that roaming rates has been reduced by up to 75% starting May 1st.
Recently TRAI has revised ceiling rates on roaming charges from current 75p/min for incoming to 45p/min. Similarly outgoing calls charges will be reduced to 0.80p/min for local and Rs 1.15/min STD from current rates of Rs 1/min and Rs 1.50/min respectively. TRAI has also reduced SMS rates drastically by up to 75% from current Rs 1 local SMS and Rs 1.5 STD SMS to just Rs 0.25 for local and Rs 0.38 for STD.
In coming days more operators is expected to implement TRAI new amendments and reduce roaming rates. Its worth to note that SMS charges are now cheaper when on roaming than in home LSA. As we move towards full MNP, it is high time for TRAI to do away with roaming.
