Vodafone Idea Preparing for Phased 5G Rollout; Added 46,000 New Sites in 2024: CEO
Vodafone Idea (Vi) is preparing to launch its 5G mobile services in a phased manner, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Akshaya Moondra, said in his New Year 2025 message to customers. He added that the telco has added over 46,000 new sites in 2024, "enhancing network like never before." According to the CEO, Vi has also enhanced the capacity at over 58,000 sites

"We enhanced the capacity at over 58,000 sites so that you can do more of what you love doing online, faster," Moondra said. TelecomTalk has reviewed a copy of the letter.

Indoor Coverage Plus technology

The CEO also highlighted that Vi's customers can now experience boosted indoor coverage and quality. "A lot more of our network is now on our Indoor Coverage Plus technology, which significantly boosts indoor coverage and quality whether you are at home, at the office, or at a mall," he said, emphasising the indoor coverage technology deployed.

Network Investments

"Partnering with global leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung, we are driving a transformative three-year investment plan. By March 2025, thousands of new sites will enhance your connectivity, elevating your network experience to extraordinary heights," Moondra mentioned in a letter to Vi customers.

Phased 5G Rollout

"The future is here! We are preparing for the phased rollout of 5G, bringing you blazing-fast speeds and unparalleled experiences," he added.

In a December 2024 investors' presentation, Vi announced plans to allocate Rs 50,000-55,000 crore in capital expenditure over the next two to three years to enhance 4G coverage and launch 5G services in key cities.

Spam Detection Solution

Highlighting solutions for customer safety, Moondra reiterated Vi's commitment to safeguarding its users with the recently launched spam detection solution. The service is designed to provide a secure experience for all customers.
