mtnl-landline-phoneMTNL Mumbai withdrawn the 95 dialing service from its Landline and CDMA Garuda Network from today. Now MTNL landline, FIX Wireless Garuda  and PCO subscribers could dial Zero with STD code for even making calls to MTNL Delhi and the neighbouring towns of  Maharashta and Goa also.It is to be noted that the call charges will remain unchanged if a customer is dialing Maharashtra and Goa and MTNL Delhi phones using ‘0’ in place of level ‘95’.

For convenience of customers, 95 dialing will continue along with level ‘0’ dialing for a period of one month. i.e. up to 10.06.2009 after which ‘95’ dialing will be closed permanently. For example to dial “Pune” landline from MTNL phones, earlier a customer had to dial “95-20-XXXXXXXX”, now the same number can be accessed by dialing “0-20-XXXXXXXX”.

All STD barred phones and PCOs of MTNL Mumbai will be allowed ‘0’ level dialing facility in place of ‘95’level w.e.f. 11.05.2009. The STD barred customers will not be able to dial STD destinations using ‘0’, but they will be able to dial areas within Maharashta and Goa and MTNL Delhi phones, in the same way as they have been dialing from their STD barred connection using 95. The local PCO will be able to access Kalyan, Vasai, Bhivandi, Pen, and Alibag using’0 ’dialing in place of ‘95’
In case of any clarification customers can dial Call Centre numbers 1500 (toll free) or 2222 1500.
It is to be noted that the call charges will remain unchanged if a customer is dialing Maharashtra and Goa and MTNL Delhi phones using ‘0’ in place of level ‘95’.
The 95 dialling, which was introduced for intra-state landline communication, will soon be removed from all landline and Fix wireless operator. However BSNL and Airtel already withdrawn the 95 dialing as the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) is planning to introduce this 95 level for mobile services. In technical terms the first digit of a telephone number is called a level, like 9.
DoT has communicated this decision to fixed-line/landline service providers, like BSNL/MTNL that they must stop the 95 dialling facility.
