Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro Users Risk Bricking Their Phones While Downgrading from MIUI 10

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Note 5 users who have updated to the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta might be in for some trouble as the Chinese OEM has announced that if the testers running MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.7.6 downgrade to previous stable or beta build, then their phone will be bricked. To counter this issue, Xiaomi has rolled out a new anti-rollback feature for Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro users.

The company has put out a post in its MIUI forum highlighting that downgrading from the already running MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM would mean a bricked phone for Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro users. Xiaomi has also said that the anti-rollback feature will bring “system stability” and “security of device”. Also, it has guided that if someone has already bricked their phone because of downgrading from the MIUI 10 Global Beta, then they should head to the nearest Mi service centre for resolution of the issue.

The official blog post by Xiaomi reads “To maintain system stability and ensure the security of the device, we have introduced a mechanism of anti-rollback. After you have updated to MIUI 10 Public ROM 8.7.6 or ROM afterwards, you cannot downgrade your ROM to previous Stable ROM and Beta ROM.” Xiaomi further added that users who have updated devices to MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM 8.7.6 or ROM afterwards, should not try to downgrade the ROM. “Otherwise, your device will be bricked, which may also affect your device stability. If your device has been bricked, please go to the nearest Mi service centre for help.”
