One of the much-asked features by its billion users is being rolled out by WhatsApp today. Yes, WhatsApp is now rolling out the 'Locked Recordings' feature for the users enrolled in the WhatsApp Beta program for Android. The latest beta update for Android with version 2.18.102 comes enabled with this feature. And it's a nice little handy feature to have around, especially for users who sent a lot of audio recordings. With the Locked Recordings feature, a user can set the lock while recording and it will keep on recording until you press the send button or cancel button. The former will push the message to the recipient, while the latter pushes the recording to trash.
Most of the users assume Locked Recordings as a feature to lock the recordings which you sent, but that's not correct. WhatsApp has just enabled a button which locks the recording button until you press the send or cancel button. Earlier, a user has to tap and hold the recording button until the completion of the recording, which used to be a cumbersome process. Finally, WhatsApp has addressed that issue with this new Locked Recording feature.
That said, to get this feature, you should be on the latest WhatsApp Beta version as mentioned above. If not, head over to the Google Play Store and download the latest one and if that didn't activate the feature, reinstall WhatsApp application on your Android smartphone.
If you want to use this new Locked Recording feature, head over to the chat screen to whom you want to send a recording and press the record button beside the camera and attachments buttons. Hit the record button and drag it to the upside to lock it; After locking the recording, you will get a cancel option in the message typing bar. Once after you're done with the recording, you can hit the send button to send the recording file to the receiver successfully, or you can hit the cancel option present in the message typing screen to move the recording to trash.
For now, this little useful feature is available only for users on WhatsApp Beta program, but WhatsApp will roll out to stable Android users and to iOS, Windows Phone platforms very soon. But for now, there's no date on when that's going to happen. Next interesting feature to be rolled by WhatsApp is WhatsApp Stickers, which of course, will face a lot of criticism, but WhatsApp is working on it already.
