Remember the Essential PH-1 smartphone launched by the Essential company a few months ago in the US? Well, the same company has now received a price cut of whopping $200 and is now retailing for just $499, making it the best bet against the OnePlus 5 which is retailing for $479 in the same country.

The Essential PH-1 smartphone was officially launched in June 2017 with an estimated shipping date of three weeks, but the phone did not reach the consumer's hands until the end of August. Originally priced at $699, the Essential PH-1 offers everything you need in 2017, bearing some other flagship features such as water and dust resistant properties, wireless charging, etc.

However, the Essential PH-1 did not receive a good reception as the company was reportedly said to be sold just 5000 units of Essential PH-1 since its launch, which is underwhelming. The reason behind this price cut is the companies such as Samsung and Apple have already acquired the premium segment, and as a young startup company, Essential wants to make a mart in the affordable market.

Several international reviews have termed the Essential PH-1 as a great smartphone, bearing the buggy camera application and poor camera performance. Since the launch, Essential has delivered several software updates and improved the overall performance and reliability of the camera, but still, it's miles behind the competition.

In addition, Essential also said that the customers who purchased the Essential PH-1 at $699 earlier will receive a $200 credit very soon. This is some good stuff from the company, whereas the market leaders such as Samsung and LG never offer any credit back after dropping the price of their smartphones within 45 days since the launch.

The Essential PH-1 is now a great alternative for the OnePlus 5, at least in the US. It offers a 5.71-inch 1440p display and it's an edge-to-edge display. Essential also powered the smartphone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM. It has dual 13MP cameras at the back and an 8MP front-facing camera. Also, the Essential PH-1 is a modular smartphone wherein you can attach modules to the two magnetic pins present at the back of the phone. The Essential PH-1 may not land in India anytime soon.
