
Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), the third-largest telecom operator in India, is going to launch 5G soon in Chhattisgarh. While the telco's website says that it has launched 5G in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circle, no cities in Chhattisgarh have been covered yet. Only Indore is covered till now. A company source, asked to remain anyonymous said that Vi (Vodafone Idea) will deploy 4G and 5G in Chhattisgarh around March 2026 in the state.
The telecom operator has so far launched 5G in 29 cities of India. With more capex (capital expenditure) planned towards network expansion and 5G deployment, major cities in Chhattisgarh such as Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Bhilai are expected to be covered soon. 5G is already prevalent in Chhattisgarh with operators like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel now even offering it in smaller towns and rural areas.

For instance, Bhatapara, a very small city in the state has blanket 5G coverage by Jio. The same is the case with even smaller towns. Vodafone Idea has been working hard to ensure that it can compete with the rivals and gain new users. Due to a lack of 5G in many regions, the telco has seen customers switching to the competitors. Even though Vi has improved 4G population coverage significantly in the last two years, the telco has not been able to arrest the subscriber loss.

As for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh market, the telco's 5G coverage is near to nothing. With deployments in the near future, it will be interesting to see whether the telco can give a tough competition to Airtel and Jio here. Many customers in these circles are also 2G users of Vi, and thus, it will be a challenge for the company to push them to upgrade to 4G and 5G services.
