Xiaomi Confirms a Dual Camera Smartphone for Next Month; Could Be the Mi 5X

The Xiaomi Mi 5X was launched last month in China as a mini Mi 6 and now the smartphone is all set to make its way to the Indian markets soon. Xiaomi India VP and MD, Manu Kumar Jain, hinted on his twitter handle that the company may launch the Xiaomi Mi 5X in India sometime in September.

"Can't wait for you guys to check out Xiaomi's first dual-camera phone in India. Coming next month," Jain wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Although the tweet does not specifically talk about the Mi 5X, the mention of dual rear cameras only indicates that Xiaomi may bring the mini Mi 6 to India within the next month. Having said that, there are also chances that Mi 6 could be making an appearance instead since it sports a dual-camera setup as well.

But last we heard, the company had no plans on introducing the Mi 6 to Indian markets, so anything could be possible at this point in time. Incidentally, there have also been alternative speculations that Xiaomi will release the Mi Note 3 in India, which is the successor to last year’s Mi Note 2.

The Mi 5X comes with a combination of dual 12MP cameras on the rear just like the Mi 6, where one lens is telephoto while the other one is wide-angle. Following the footsteps of the Mi 6, the Mi 5X most likely offers 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom, which results in special effects like the Bokeh effect in portraits and clearer distant shots.

The Mi 5X comes with an all-metal unibody design and a fingerprint sensor mounted on the back panel. We can easily say that the Mi 5X is yet another iPhone 7 rip-off with the 2.5D curved glass on the front to the antenna lines on the back, and even in its design and dual-camera placement. The Xiaomi Mi 5X is available in three colour options – Black, Gold, and Rose Gold.

As for the hardware, the Mi 5X sports a 5.5-inch FHD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor under the hood. The chipset is shipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory which can be further expanded via microSD card. The device is backed by a 3,080mAh battery and comes with a USB Type-C port for data syncing and charging.
