In a bid to improve 3G mobile and data service coverage, Vodafone India has added more than 400 new 3G BTS (Node-B) in Kolkata and West Bengal (including Sikkim and Andman Nicobar) circles.
Vodafone India said that it has added around 406 new 3G enabled BTS (mobile towers) over the last 3 months to boost 3G networks or high speed data coverage in Kolkata and Rest of Bengal. Out of 406 new towers around 324 3G enabled sites have in added in Kolkata Metro circles and 82 cell-sites in the Rest of the Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman Nicobar circle.
According to Anand Sahai, Business Head, Vodafone India, Kolkata & West Bengal, the company has seen a near 100% growth in 2G and 3G data services in this region.
Presently Vodafone India had approximately, 1665 3G-enabled mobile towers and 2200 2G cell-sites sites in Kolkata circle. In Rest of Bengal (including Sikkim and Andaman - Nicobar) total 6600 2G -EDGE BTS and 506 3G cell sites are operational.
Vodafone India claims, It has 3G network coverage aprrox 80& of its areas in Kolkata circles, In semi-urban and rural areas of Rest of Bengal it mostly has 2G EDGE networks while 3G services are available in major towns in RoB, Sikkim and Andaman.
