Telecom enthusiasts all over the country are eagerly awaiting the commercial launch of Reliance Jio which is the 4G venture that marks the re-entry of Mukesh Ambani in the telecom market. Every year as we approach the end of December, rumours of Jio’s launch run rife with the date under speculation being 28th December which is the birth anniversary of late Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani, the pioneer of reliance group of industries.
This year it’s no different, even though there have been talks of a first quarter of 2015 pan India commercial launch, there are still a few indications pointing towards a December 28th soft launch of products and services. Let’s enlist the indicators we have so far.
Jio 4G LTE network detected in Tamilnadu circle:
In a tip received from one of our readers we have received a screenshot showing the scan results for available cellular networks in Tamilnadu circle and Reliance Jio LTE network is displaying as live.
Jio Infocom servers hosting speed tests by Ookla:
Reliance Jio’s servers are already live and are hosting speed tests by Ookla in many parts of India. Here we have a screenshot of Jio hosting a speedtest for Hathway cable internet in Mumbai.
Jio is ending trials for Jio drive app on 29th December:
Reliance Jio had been testing its suite of apps which were in beta stage of development. The apps were made available to closed group of testers who used the apps and gave helpful feedback to Jio. The beta testing for Jio drive is ending on 29th December as indicated in a screenshot of a mail sent in as a tip from one of our readers. As the mail reads ‘Jio is readying its system for commercial launch’.
Jio got security clearance from DOT in 6 circles:
Reliance Jio Infocom has received security clearance from DOT for launching services in Kolkata, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat telecom circles. This indicates we could see an initial launch in these circles.
Jio received signalling point codes from DOT in 4 circles:
Reliance Jio Infocom has been granted signalling point codes for launching its National long distance (NLD) and international long distance (ILD) telephony services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Karnataka circles. These SP codes are valid for 6 months from the date of allotment.
