Back in August, the Chinese OEM, Oppo launched the R17 Pro and the standard R17 in China. Both these phones were the first ones from Oppo to debut with a waterdrop style notch and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone was a much-hyped device when it launched two months ago, still that time, there was no sign of the phone launching in India. However, we have spotted a recent development on Oppo India's official Twitter page which hints towards the launch of a new phone and we're expecting it might be the R17 Pro which will be launched next in India.

Oppo India Hints Towards a New Phone Launch

The latest tweet of Oppo India is a 5-second video which simply shows the “R” letter in purple colour and does not reveal a lot. Also, the caption of the latest tweet reads “Stay tuned! Something new is coming up. #OPPO R-Series.” With this tweet, we sure that Oppo is hinting towards the launch of an R-series phone and the speculations point towards the fact that this new release by Oppo is likely to be the Oppo R17 Pro.

Oppo R17 Pro: Specifications and Features

The highlight of the Oppo R17 Pro is the waterdrop notch and the in-display fingerprint sensor. Apart from that, the Oppo R17 Pro boasts of a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution. The glass comes protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla 6, and it boasts of a screen to body ratio of 91.5%. Like we mentioned, the Oppo R17 Pro gets a similar optical in-display fingerprint sensor as the OnePlus 6T, and the company claims that it can unlock the device in just 0.41 seconds.

Even then, the Oppo R17 Pro doesn’t hold up to the OnePlus 6T benchmark when it comes to performance. Under the hood, the phone packs the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which is part of the new 700-Series of chipsets from Qualcomm promising a high-mid range experience for smartphone users. This processor is paired with Adreno 616 GPU, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The battery on the Oppo R17 Pro is a 3,700mAh unit which comes with Oppo’s SuperVOOC fast charging support.

Oppo R17 Pro With Triple Cameras and HyperBoost Technology

Another thing which catches the attention with the Oppo R17 Pro is the triple rear camera setup which the phone flaunts. On the rear, we get to see a 12MP primary sensor with a variable aperture with a 20MP secondary sensor and a TOF 3D sensor. On the front, the Oppo R17 Pro flaunts a 25MP Sony IMX576 sensor. In addition to that, the Oppo R17 Pro also features the HyperBoost Acceleration Engine technology which boosts the efficiency of the phone and makes it function faster.

Given that Oppo and OnePlus are sister brands and they even share their R&D, there are some apparent similarities between the OnePlus 6T and the Oppo R17 Pro. However, when the phone was released in China, it was seen that the two devices are not all that similar. What truly differentiates the Oppo R17 Pro from the OnePlus 6T is the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which is also going to be reason behind Oppo R17’s lesser price tag when compared to the OnePlus 6T.
