Telecom operators fined Rs 2,179.41 crore for issuing mobile numbers against forged documents:Ravi Shankar Prasad

The IT and Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that total penalty of Rs.2,179.41 crore was imposed on telecom service providers till September 30th for violation of customer verification guidelines. "A total penalty of about Rs 2,179.41 crore has been imposed since the inception till September 30, 2014 on telecom operators for violations of verification guidelines," said the minister. TDSAT sets aside the penalty on Airtel and Vodafone

Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has set aside Rs 650 crore penalty on Airtel and Rs 100 crore fine on Vodafone imposed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for offering the SLD services violating license norms that allows roaming users to use local network without paying STD and roaming charges.
