Uninor Launches GSM Mobile Service In Orissa

Uninor, the GSM mobile service brand of Unitech Wireless and the joint venture company of India’s second largest real estate major Unitech Limited and the world’s largest mobile services provider Telenor Group of Norway, on today launched its GSM service in Orissa Telcom circle. The latest entrant in Indian GSM space Uninor now covering 8 telecom circles namely Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, UP East, UP West, Bihar-Jharkhand and now Orissa.

The company holds a pan-India UAS licence to offer mobile telephony services in each of India’s 22 circles with spectrum to roll out these services in 21 of the 22 circles. On launch day, Uninor will be retailed at over 13762 points of sales in Orissa telecom circle, which is again the largest ever launch distribution achieved by any GSM operator in India.




Stein-Erik Vellan, Managing Director of Uninor said “With launch in Orissa now Uninor's  presence in eight telecom circles and roaming agreements in place for the rest, we have started our service in India on day one as a pan-Indian national operator. While our launch today is indeed a milestone in a longer journey to become a significant operator in India, we are delighted to have made such a strong start,” said .

Uninor is launching its service with two price plans — a base plan called talkmore at 29 paise and a subscription plan called callmore at 29 paise Talkmore at 29 paise is designed for customers who talk longer on their calls.

The Uninor's tariff plans offers customers local calls at 29 paise per minute and STD calls at 49 paise per minute, with a call set up fee of 39 paise. Callmore at 29 paise is designed for customers who call more often by offering the lowest per minute local call rates in the market. The plan offers local calls at 29 paise per minute and STD calls at 49 paise per minute, with a daily rental of Rs 2.
