TataSky the second largest DTH operator by subscriber base has announced a strategic partnership with state run BSNL for its broadband service. Under the MOU signed TataSky subscribers wishing to avail video on demand service will be able to do so by getting BSNL broadband connection installed at their premises.
BSNL will be handing over the details of its approximately 2 crore Broadband subscribers to TataSky which has a subscriber base of around 11 million. This service can only be availed by subscribers using HD+ and HD transfer set top boxes. TataSky will approach such eligible subscribers and offer a promotional entry offer, on agreeing to which it will forward the successful leads to BSNL which in turn will do the broadband installation within 72 hours.
Under the entry level discount promotion, BSNL will waive off the first month rental of broadband while TataSky will allow the subscriber to download content worth Rs.500 from its VoD catalogue. This is a win win situation for both operators as BSNL benefits by increase in broadband subscriber base while TataSky benefits by increase in revenue through premium video content consumption. The partnership will span across all 20 circles where BSNL operates excluding the metro circles of Mumbai and Delhi.
